This is a great surf resort option in Fiji. Very friendly staff, enjoyed the food which was fresh and tasty, worth a walk up the hill to catch the fabulous view to the outer reef, and the staff are happy to organise a kava ceremony for you after dinner. You buy the kava at their reception area ($2 a bag), get a group together and sit on the grass mat and listen to the staff sing along to the guitars - priceless! Cute small shared rooms which were clean and tidy with towels and lots of hot water.

We absolutely loved every second at Funky Fish. Sosi is a super star, she and the rest of her staff can't do enough for you. We felt so welcome and well taken care of from the moment we arrived until the moment we left. So many affordable options for day trips and as mentioned, Cloud 9 is a must do. Vinaka vakalevu Funky Fish crew, you guys are wonderful!

If you're looking to surf, snorkel or just chill-out somewhere that doesn't cost a fortune then this ticks all the boxes. The accommodation is basic but clean and comfortable. There is a dorm, a couple of family two bed bungalows and about a dozen single bungalows with two single beds, small fridge and kettle. The staff are really friendly and helpful. I thought the food was average for the price, about 35 FJD for dinner but then then a lot of normal produce wasn't available after cyclone Winston. Getting to Malolo is not straight forward. The advertised direct route via South Seas cruises costs around 120 FJD one-way but you can do it cheaper if you take the Malolo Cat from Denerau to Musket Cove on Malolo Lailai, the neighbouring island, and get the Funky Fish transfer boat across, which takes about 10 minutes. The Malolo Cat costs 70 FJD one-way and the FF transfer is 21 FJD one-way. They have a nice pool, have kayaks for hire, and will take surfers out to the reef on request. A really relaxing place to stay with no frills.

Funky Fish is the place you go to, when you really want to relax and get into that special Fiji-time-mode. Things are taken with ease, the atmosphere is relaxing and time seems to stand still on paradise on Earth. The staff is so friendly, and the size of the resort makes you feel like a little family, yourself, other travelers, and the staff. You'll be able to go on tours, borrow free equipment for various waterspouts, and a lot of things can be arranged within the hour, and Funky fish staff are very flexible when it comes to arranging something fun to do. They have a great menu, and they do their outmost best to treat you like a queen or king. The site is beautiful. Waking up at 6 am and taking a swim in the beautiful water, just 10 meters from the small and very cute and romantic bungalow, which has everything you need when being in such a beautiful place on earth. A bed, water, bathroom, fridge and a fan - what else do you need, eh? The price is great and you get great value for money spend.

From our last year review things are still improved. Meals are better with every night buffet. A lot of fruit at breakfast. Fish and seafood are common in the night and well done even in a small and simple place as Funky is. New free Wi-Fi internet accesses make surf forecast available and enable easy contact with the outside world. The staff is even greater and will make you feel as in your home. As we said last year, the place is simple, but have all you need for surf trips and good rest. Still there are some thing to improve. Specially the generator noise. Is so important to stay in a natural place with natural sound. As more people go the the place, some problem can arise to where to go between beginners and experience surfers. So I think two boats always available for surf trips is needed to make possible go to different places. Also I don't know why the surf trip length time is three hours went a typical surf trip last four hours.

We stayed in a one bedroom beachfront bure (number 13) and loved it. It's a large bure located at the end of the walkway. The resort is very relaxed and everyone is so friendly. The food was very good. Don't expect much of a beach but you can easily take a boat ride out to a beach close by. Also, booking a day at cloud 9 is a must. It's only 15 minutes away. The pool is great and we spent a lot of time there. There's also free Wi-Fi in the main area. We had a great time at Funky Fish.
