Surf House Somo

The Surf House Somo “Casa del Surf” is the first surf house in Somo. It is a stone castle which was formerly the pottery workshop of Somo, but has been totally reformed. It was one of the last projects of Escuela Cantabra De Surf, to facilitate accommodation to all the people who pass by the surf school.

The house is located at the top of the village of Somo, just a two-minute walk from the Cántabra Surf School and the beach of Somo. It has single, double, and triple rooms, all equipped with private bathroom and Wi-Fi. There is also free parking.

From Surf House Somo, you will see one of the most magical and privileged sunsets, with beautiful views over the whole bay of Santander, while enjoying a cold beer after an intense day of surfing. After surf, you can also relax and enjoy the bar-terrace, barbecue, good atmosphere, and the weekly fun they offer there.

The Surf House Somo has everything you are looking for in a surf house, being one of the options recommended by the school. Before boarding, Escuela Cantabra De Surf recommends stopping at the school first to formalize the registration.

Surf Cabins

The Surf Cabins are one of the best accommodation options they have in Somo, based on the price, quality, and proximity ratio. Located in the center of the Somo village, just 100 meters from the Cantabrian surf school and the beach, it is ideal for surfers and beach lovers.

The cabins have single, double, triple, and quadruple rooms, all equipped with private bathroom, television, and Wi-Fi. You have a supermarket, all kinds of restaurants, bars, and coffee shops just a few meters from the hotel entrance. There are lots of places to eat rich and cheap.

Program

During this surf camp, you will benefit from four-hour surfing lessons every day. All the surfing materials are included during the lessons and can be rented for the rest of the day. Escuela Cantabra De Surf Quicksilver Roxy is the first surf school in Spain, with more than 27 years of experience. It is one of the most recognized and prestigious schools in Europe, driven by surfers who love surfing. This school is recognized by the Spanish surf federation.

The school organizes small groups of five to seven students per instructor. You get to learn to surf or improve your surfing with the most qualified, experienced, and safe instructors. Surf lessons are available for all ages and levels. Instructors always separate the classes in a homogeneous way by age and level to ensure safety and proper learning. Thus, you take advantage of the classes to the fullest.

If you want to keep the surfing materials, there is no problem. There is a supplement of 10 EUR per person, per day that includes table and neoprene. The school has the best materials on the market and they renew them every year.

Escuela Cantabra De Surf has polyester and epoxy shortboards and longboards of all sizes, as well as softboards. There are more than 300 tables on the stock. You can also rent SUP, bodyboard, skate, longskate, and carvers. The school has changing rooms and showers, as well as a powerful surf shop with the latest in surfing and fashion.

Class schedules

During the months of July and August, classes are held at various times, namely 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

The best hours to do the class is first thing in the morning (10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.) and last in the afternoon (6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.), as this is when the sea conditions are better and there is less influx of people.

This surf camp will take place in front of the Somo beach, in Cantabria, Spain. The Playa de Somo is located within the first natural reserve of surf in Spain. Somo is one of the surf meccas in Spain and one of the surf paradises in Cantabria. It meets excellent conditions for learning and surfing all year round, suitable for all levels.

To talk about Somo beach means to talk about surfing. The first surfboards, wetsuits, surf shop, and surf school in Spain were born here. Thus, there is a great culture and tradition for surfing among local surfers. The beach of Somo is one of the most consistent beaches in Spain because it is oriented to the open sea and receives good waves throughout the year. It has more than seven kilometers of white sand and perfect beach brakes.

What is more, if there are no waves here, you probably will not find waves all over northern Spain. Somo is the idyllic place for learning and practicing surfing, paddle surfing, and bodyboarding. There is also a skate park.

Somo village is located within the municipality of Ribamontán al Mar. With the island of Santa Marina and Mouro in front and surrounded by beaches like Loredo, Langre, and Galizano, it has good restaurants where to enjoy traditional food. It is well connected by boat and road to Santander, where you can go out at night and discover the beauty of this city.

In Somo, there are several national and European surfing championships due to the good conditions, with long waves where they can perform all kinds of maneuvers. Among them, there is Festival Surf, Skate, and Music that celebrates the Escuela Cantabra de Surf in the first weekend of September.
