This yoga and surf retreat package is open for people at all levels of experience of yoga and surfing. It offers a surf-immersion to propel you forward on your board and at the same time relax your body and mind in rejuvenating yoga practices. Here, you’ll have a chance to deepen your skills by surfing on a world-class beach and point breaks. This is the kind of holiday that you don't want to miss.
El Salvador Retreats hosts retreats at different venues close to El Tunco, but by far their favorite retreat venue is Villa del Olas, a luxurious ocean-front villa located inside the Atami private beach community near the beaches of Palmarcito and El Zonte.
The rooms will be shared based on double to triple occupancy. There is also an option single occupancy. There is often an opportunity to come or leave a day earlier / later, the extension option is available at an additional cost. Please inform El Salvador Retreats if you want to extend your trip. Alternatively, they can recommend guest houses nearby.
During this retreat, you will have 2 yoga classes and 2 surfing lessons, with optional surf coaching / photo reviewing. The surfing is for all levels, however, during spring and summer season, El Salvador Retreats recommends you to come with some previous surfing experience. You can surf the break right in front of the villa on a private beach, great for skill building.
Typically, you will try to surf in the morning or afternoon, whilst the sea is in the coolest temperature, but this will depend upon high and low tides. You’re welcome to wake up earlier and head down to the beach for an early morning surf, but please be mindful of your neighbors.
Seasonally, the waves in El Salvador are semi-consistent. December to February usually runs 2 - 4 feet with a week or two of larger waves. This is the ideal season for beginners. March to May and October to November is generally 3-5 feet with a few weeks of larger waves. It is a good time for both beginners and intermediates. On June - September, the waves can be very large and are more weather dependent as it is the rainy season.
This retreat is a surf-at-your-own-risk event. As you cannot predict weather and wave conditions, El Salvador Retreats will work with the group to ensure new optional activities are available in the event.
Although they will do their best to get you to the right waves for your ability, there may be a period of the retreat that the waves become too sizable or the surf guide deems out of the surfer’s skill ability. In such a case, you will be notified and must comply for the safety of yourself and others.
All activities are optional, and El Salvador Retreats will vary the timings according to the tide timings to maximize your surf opportunities.
On this retreat, you will also enjoy a full-day mountain tour, including colonial town visit, coffee plantation or volcanic hot springs tour, a half day waterfall hike and swim, and also a local markets tour.
This retreat will be held in El Salvador, a beautiful, tropical country with spectacular vistas and comfortable weather all year round. Unfortunately, El Salvador remains off many travelers’ radar, overlooked for other Central American countries such as Costa Rica, Guatemala, and Panama.
El Salvador has many understated charms, kind, and friendly people that surprise most first-time visitors. Being off the beaten path, El Salvador remains unspoiled by heavy tourism. El Salvador is the smallest country in Central America, yet includes some of the best paved roadways. Visitors reap the benefits in that traveling to even the most far-flung destinations never takes more than a few hours.
The food is healthy, fresh, and delicious to power your yoga and surf retreat experience. During your stay, you will be served 3 daily meals and snacks, prepared by the staff and chefs.
The meals are omnivorous, but El Salvador Retreats will be happy to accommodate alternative dietary requirements (vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free). Please communicate food preferences or allergies when you book.
Breakfast will be prepared after the morning surf session or prior to the day’s excursion. Fresh fruit, smoothies, and lunch fixings are prepped at the house to be readily enjoyed by guests at their individual convenience.
Dinners are cooked daily at the house, except for an optional sunset dinner at a local restaurant. El Salvador is known for pupusas (like a stuffed tortilla filled with meat, cheese, and vegetables). The house staff prepares fresh pupusas for dinner at 1 to 2 nights. Pupusas are served with gourmet sides and toppings.
All non–alcoholic beverages are provided. Two beers per day or a ½ bottle of wine is also included. Guests that wish to consume more than the daily provision of alcoholic beverages provided are responsible for the additional cost of ingredients and alcohol. Please keep in mind that this is a very healthy and active retreat. It’s not a poolside cocktail-fest in Cancun. If you drink too much, you will miss out on fun stuff.Below is the list of the food that will be served during your stay:
