With it’s beaches of the Caribbean and the Pacific, Costa Rica holds a privileged place in the heart of Central America (three hour drive or 45 minute flight from coast-to-coast). While the Caribbean distinguishes itself through diversity in an aquatic ecological system, ideal for diving and snorkeling in clear water, the pacific coast is favored for surfing.
You will find numerous nature retreats that make the fauna and flora of Costa Rica so unique. The official language is Spanish with some differences to European Spanish. But no worries, if one studied Spanish, one will certainly be able to communicate. If one has very little Spanish knowledge, one can usually get quite far with English.
There are four Playa Hermosas in Costa Rica. Early Bird Surfhouse lies on the Nicoya Peninsola, north of Mal Pais. More precisely, just between the well known Santa Teresa and the fishing village Manzanillo. The town lives up to its name 'Playa Hermosa', which translates to 'beautiful beach’.
Here, you’ll find a pleasant coast line with brown sand, situated between wooded mountains, continuous surf (beach break) and magnificent natural tidal basins for swimming and snorkeling. The less populated and quiet Playa Hermosa has considerably fewer visitors, contrary to its neighbors in the south (Santa Teresa). This offers the chance to be first in the water or on the beach.
Next to surfing, you can also take wonderful walks on the beach, go jogging or take your camera on an expedition (almost always worth it!) or you can discover your personal nature retreat that will supply your physical and emotional fitness with plenty of energy.
There is a supermarket in Playa Hermosa and several small restaurants which they can highly recommend in walking distance. Should you be urged to go on a shopping spree or explore the night life, check out Santa Teresa (10 to 15 minutes by car). There you’ll find shops of all kind, numerous restaurants, cafes, and bars. Here too, the Early Bird Surfhouse staff will be happy to answer any questions you might have.
This package includes small breakfast before the early surf session (coffee, fruits, and cereals) and dinner. Early Bird Surfhouse also cater to vegetarians and people with allergies.
