You will stay at various accommodations including Pousada Rancho do Peixe in Preá, Pousada Vila Kalango in Jericoacoara, Pousada Portal dos Ventos in Tatajuba, and Casa São José in Camocim. E-Group has selected small hotels or pousadas that are unique, beautiful, and full of local character. The accommodations are based on double rooms (sharing a room with someone else).

Pousada Rancho do Peixe

Here, everything is designed to keep the local culture always present. It starts with the structure built with wood from reclaimed and carnauba straw, typical of the region. The property believes in and takes actions that make a difference and contribute to community development.

Pousada Vila Kalango

Vila Kalango is located directly next to Sunset Dune and is the only place that maintains the native hundred-year-old coconut trees. The essential luxury, simplicity, and charming local culture along with a team of easy-going people welcome you as if you were at home. You will find constant wind and the sea at your doorstep. It is a place to be at peace and to connect with nature.

Casa São José

It is a charming colonial-inspired house with the comfort and attention of the past. A lush tropical garden surrounds the suites and chalets, tastefully decorated with spacious private areas. Under the freshness of the banana trees, the sapotis and seriguelas, a gym equipped for Pilates and stretching exercises precede the pool, surrounded by comfortable lounge chairs and strategically located to enjoy the intense sun of the northeast. There are many charms in the beach bungalow when arriving from the downwind.

How it works

The day before the journey begins, you will do a test to evaluate whether you are ready for the downwind and to analyze the conditions and the equipment. You will leave the hotel early each morning, heading north for secret, wild, and remote locations. All the details are pre-defined and E-Group offers the guidance from professional athletes in the water, giving valuable tips to kiters daily.

There is a briefing given every morning by the team captain, where you are given a clear vision of the expedition including the objectives, the beauty, and the dangers. The support vehicles follow the group whenever possible (where access is not possible, there will be guides in the water to help). Some strategic stopping points have been organized, where the car will stop and wait for you to hydrate yourself with healthy foods and beverages, as well as refresh your mind for the kiting ahead.

Level description

These downwind routes are appropriate for riders who have at least some experience in small (less than one meter) waves, have done at least one downwinder, and are confident of the ability to kite for at least two hours per day.

Every day, the briefing will be at 10:00 after the breakfast, so you will need to prepare your luggage before you eat. After the briefing, you will leave your luggage at the reception for your driver (please ask the front desk to help you with that) then at 10:00, you will be on the beach ready to go.

Everything will always be at the reception when you arrive at each hotel and must be there when you leave. You can separate your small bags (with computers and cameras) to go inside the car. Your gear and other equipment will have to go outside of the car. Please leave luggage at the reception.

This route is designed to be an introduction to the amazing world of downwinders, where you can improve your skills and prepare for longer routes in the future. This path allows you to discover the Brazilian northeast from a different perspective, with fewer waves and smoother, calmer waters.

Day 1: Check-in - Preá

You will check in at Rancho do Peixe. You will have a team meeting at the beach bar at 16:00 then kite together to get to know the local conditions. This also gives you the opportunity to test the kites and equipment. At 19:30, all of you will meet at the hotel restaurant for an amazing dinner. Rancho do Peixe is a truly beautiful beachside hotel spread over several acres with kite rigging area, bar, restaurant, and swimming pool. This hotel was selected as a Tripadvisor's 2015 Traveler's Choice and received a Condé Nast award in 2016. Rancho is 12 kilometers from Jericoacoara, a legendary end-of-the-earth town that is definitely worth a night or two on the front end of the trip

Day 2: Preá to Jericoacoara

Vila Kalango is full of surprises. It is situated in front of the famous Duna Pôr do Sol and has enchanted guests for many years. You will have breakfast and the morning briefing at 10:00. This is done every day because it is important to share the details of the route, the risks, and the strategic stopping points. When the wind starts to blow, you will begin your new route! You will leave from the beautiful beaches of Preá, passing the Pedra Furada and arriving at the Duna de Jeri.

Day 3: Jericoacoara to Tatajuba

Breakfast and morning briefing is at 10:00 in the hotel restaurant. You will leave from Duna Pôr do Sol, passing Guriú and enjoying good waves on the high ocean. You will arrive at the charming Tatajuba beach, where you will enjoy the sunset and have dinner together at 19:30 at Zezinho’s place.

Day 4: Tatajuba to Camocim

Early morning breakfast is at around 08:00, followed by the daily briefing. Enjoy another beautiful day of kiting in this hidden paradise. You will arrive at Camocim, home of some of the regions best kiters. Dinner is at around 19:30.

Day 5: Check-out - Camocim

Today is the closing of the program and check-out at Rancho do Peixe. Enjoy your last moments with E-Group, with the wind in your hair and the sand in your feet, reflecting on the special moments in your life and all to be grateful for. This paradise awaits you.

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Pinto Martins - Fortaleza International Airport (FOR).

The main gateway to Northeast Region of Brazil is Pinto Martins - Fortaleza International Airport (FOR) in Fortaleza, although there are some alternate routes. There are only a few direct flights from the USA to Fortaleza, so travelers from USA most often fly through Rio or São Paulo and then back to Fortaleza, which is not ideal but not as bad as it might sound. As of 2018, there are some direct flights from Miami to Fortaleza; if you can use those in your routing, you will save some time.

Cancellation Policy

  • A reservation requires a deposit of 14% of the total price.
  • The deposit is non-refundable, if the booking is cancelled.
  • The rest of the payment should be paid on arrival.
