Surfing and yoga are the staples every day whilst there are numerous additional activities available as action-packed or relaxed time as you prefer. You will stay in a historic tower renovated with all the mod-cons, on the west coast of Jersey, located within the Jersey National Park. Fill up with a healthy fuel needed with a nutritious organic vegetarian food and detoxing without even noticing!

Kempt Tower was originally built in 1834 as a defensive tower against possible French invasion. Constructed with Jersey granite, the tower has the best of both worlds, with being a stone’s throw from the beach below and also picturesque paths through Jersey’s wetland nature reserve and sand dunes just minutes away. There is a rooftop area with magnificent views across the Bay.

The nature of Drift Retreat is about sharing this unique experience together. The tower is open plan and there are bunk beds with a double bed as the bottom bunk and a single bed on the top. So it is possible to share the double for the best rate.

If you think of the tower as indoor camping, you won’t be disappointed. They are comfy and cozy for a good night's sleep. This is closer to glamping than camping and the bunks are divided by screens if requested. Usually, everyone is so tired out from the day, they all pass out and get a good night’s sleep.

There are hot showers, a comfortable living and dining space with a wood burner, and a selection of classic surf films and good books. Linen and towels are provided.


Wake up to yoga each morning, surf sessions every day, and explore the nature and wildlife on your doorstep with five miles of pristine beach and Jersey National Trust’s Wetland Centre nearby. Drift Retreat aims for a group swim in the sea every day. In the afternoons, you walk or go foraging for wild food.

The itinerary changes depending on conditions, tide, and guests. Nature dictates the schedule. It is flexible and rolled with what nature decides. If there are waves, you surf. If the surf is flat, you do SUP (stand up paddle-board). If the wind is strong, you visit a more sheltered beach.

The Kempt Tower is your sanctuary for the duration of your visit. You eat delicious meals together and go with the flow, adapting to make sure you make the most of the conditions and get the best experience of nature and wild adventures balanced with healthy downtime and relaxation. Drift Retreat guarantees you won’t be disappointed.

The whole experience is about unplugging from the stresses of modern life, digitally detoxing, and getting back in touch with nature, so you'll leave feeling refreshed, renewed, and rejuvenated.

Surfing sessions

Drift Retreat likes to get in the sea all year around, no matter the weather. They focus on surfing with a one hour and a half session every day tailored to individual needs. They usually film sessions so you can analyze your form if you wish and you can receive individual feedback on your progress and style.

All instructors are surf Great Britain (GB) level 1 surf coaches and Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) lifeguards. They always have at least two instructors per group of eight to ensure a good level of coaching and attention

Surfing is about the pure child-like joy of riding a wave, whether you do that lying on your belly or you are a seasoned pro, Drift Retreat is about having fun. It’s as simple as that. The tide dictates when you surf and this decides when surf lessons will be each day.

No matter what, Drift Retreat will provide excellent activities designed to leave you feeling refreshed and rejuvenated by your time by the sea.

Yoga classes

Drift Retreat wants you to move your body and spend time with yourself honoring the good intention to put aside some time for your own personal movement and development. They run a one-hour yoga session each morning and an optional extra hour each afternoon for the three day weekend.

The teachers are very relaxed when it comes to the yoga, just like everything else. The main thing is to get moving and fluid. The relaxed style of the teachers means it is mostly about having fun.

It will be more about cultivating balance by combining both Yin and Yang yoga. Vinyasa flow is to move, strengthen, stretch, and breathe. A dynamic style focused on synchronizing breath with movement to build awareness of the whole body creates flexibility, stability, and coordination; following alignment principles to allow more energy flow throughout.

Yin yoga restores and delves into the fascia, connective tissues, and reaches the organs through the Chinese meridians. It is more static, floor based, and rooted in mindfulness. It is a functional approach and accessible to all. You are focused on being happy, confident, and getting a good energy flowing.

The afternoon class is even more relaxed with an easier session designed to stretch out the muscles used in the day’s activities and usually incorporating elements of mindfulness and meditation. Just like the best surfer is the one having the most fun, the best yogi is the one with the biggest smile.


Rebecca Coley
Born and raised in Jersey, Rebecca spent much of her childhood on the beach. After university, turning her back on a career in law, she managed Laneez Surf School for two years, trained as a lifeguard and attained the British Surfing Association certificate in surf coaching. Rebecca is passionate about reconnecting with nature and encouraging others to do the same. She is an advocate for cold water swimming, getting in the sea all year around.
Natalie Fox
Natalie originally hailed from Stratford-Upon-Avon. Nat is a proof that coming from a land-locked place does not stop you becoming a sea lover if you have the taste for salt water in you. She teaches yoga, SUP, and surfing and has practiced yoga for ten years. In 2011, Nat traveled to India for her 200-hour teacher training and through Quantum Yoga, she learned the art of sequencing Vinyasa flow to balance the body and mind. Nat began teaching yoga in Sri Lanka and continued to work and travel complimenting yoga and surf coaching in Costa Rica and Panama until she reached Jersey in 2013.
Gemma Bartlett
Gemma is the owner of 'Wild Health' food and lifestyle company. She is a living foods chef and advocate of eating whole, natural, organic foods. Gemma is Drift Retreat's head chef and she loves to create delicious colorful​ healthy meals and snacks. Gemma studied to become a health educator at Hippocrates Health Institute, learning the incredible power of living foods combined with mindfulness, exercise, and emotional freedom techniques for healing and reversing many health conditions. A holistic therapist, Gemma works alongside many clients helping them to heal themselves.


This retreat is located in the magical Channel Islands, surrounded by some of the cleanest beaches in Europe and best coastline in the British isles. You will be based in one of the Jersey's most amazing locations, the iconic Kempt Tower. Kempt Tower is perfectly situated overlooking St Ouen's five-mile beach on one side and the Pond Nature Reserve with a state-of-the-art bird hide on the other.

The tower has been restored with all the modern conveniences. It is situated inside the Jersey National Park, which encompasses 1,900 hectares of fully protected coastline. There are many beautiful coastal walks, bays, and beaches to explore. You can also simply relax on the beach or up on the roof of your Martello Tower, home for your retreat.

Food is at the center of well-being and is at the center of this retreat. You know what you put in you get out, so you will be putting in lots of the good stuff! During the weekend, Drift Retreat will blow your mind with delicious super foods, healthy delicious meals, and snacks so you won’t ever feel you’re missing out. You’ll always have enough and you will have the right fuel for the activities involved with a specially designed menu for the duration of your stay.

You will have had a detox whilst still having that yummy holiday feeling of eating lots of delicious meals and treats. The menus are designed by Gemma from Wild Health. Most of the food will be gluten-free, dairy-free and raw, with a few exceptions where they will clearly tell you. Drift Retreat is proud that most food is locally sourced and organic and includes seasonal and wild treats where possible.

  • Breakfasts: Banana pancakes with berries and green smoothie, avocado on rye toast, or avocado, spinach, and poached egg (gluten and dairy option) and berry smoothie, or cinnamon, raisin, banana oatmeal, and summer fruits smoothie
  • Lunches: Raw pizza crackers topped with hummus, sundried tomatoes, avocado, and kale chips (raw), soup topped with popcorn and stone-age nut bread open sandwich, or sprouted lentil burgers in cabbage wraps (raw) with mushroom jerky
  • Dinners: Summer spaghetti - courgette noodles with cherry tomatoes, olives, pepper, and pesto (raw), nori rolls with tamari dipping sauce and Asian salad (raw), or roasted vegetable super uber salad with loads of delicious Jersey veg and leaves
  • Snacks (all raw): Fresh juice - beetroot, orange, and ginger; frozen banana vegan ice cream; fresh juice - kale, apple, spinach, and cucumber; raw tortillas and guacamole; fresh juice - carrot, pear, ginger, and turmeric; or raw chocolate and strawberry torte.

How to get there

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flights to arrive at Jersey Airport (JER). Transfers from and to this airport are included in the price. Drift Retreat will pick you up at the airport.

  • A reservation requires a deposit of 50% of the total price.
  • The deposit is non-refundable, if the booking is cancelled.
