The Barra Grande Beach Club is home of two friends, Djan and Karl, enjoying Brazil's climate, people, and wind conditions for kitesurfing. Inspired by the local architecture and natural building materials, they welcome you to step into their home for an international exchange.
Since 2010, Vila Itaqui has provided unique moments to its guests and visitors. Every day, they are presented with a spectacular sunset that delights every person who watches it. Besides its more than privileged location, Vila Itaqui has become a reference of quality and good taste among its visitors. There are 20,000 square meters of green and connection with nature with six bungalows and four apartments built by local workforce that used reforested wood and Carnaúba straw - a local palm tree. There is also an extensive parking lot and a great open to public restaurant that serves delicious food and cocktails and has wine and pizza nights.
Their environmental concern goes beyond keeping the beach clean; they frequently welcome the staff of Projeto BioMade, an organization that takes care of sea turtles preservation. After all, Praia do Itaqui is one of the spots for the spawning of five out of seven species. Vila Itaqui also hosts many different events, such as sunset parties, luaus, wedding celebrations, New Year's parties and the round for the Brazilian Kitesurfing Championship - Arena Kite Brasil. They are right at Rota das Emoções waiting for you to visit.
The Pousada Maresia is situated in Atins, a quiet and charming fisherman’s village at the river mouth of the Preguiça river, in the extraordinary Lençois Maranhense National Park. The isolation, the difficult access and the lack of communications and transportations, guarantee the originality and genuinity of this unique place. Their policy is to maintain this natural paradise intact, by preserving the Nature and the local traditions of this magical place.
The pousada is located in the small center of the village, at 200 meters from the beach and just 400 meters from the Lençois Maranhense National Park. It is divided into two areas, one area on the other side of the square with the private wooden chalets and the main area with the tropical garden, the restaurant, and the kite school.
They have luxury apartments for families and friends; wooden chalets, private bungalows for couples; and the ocean view penthouse for the more exigent clients. The total area of the garden is over 5,000 meters squared, with hundreds of different plants and variety of flowers and fruits. Thankful to this natural ambient and the way the rooms are built, they don’t see any necessity of using air conditioning.
Casa de Caboclo is an inn domiciliary in a rural setting where you can enjoy complete silence, tranquility, and contact with nature. For the convenience of their visitors, the suites offer air conditioning, minibar, and Wi-Fi.
A downwind kitesafari brings you the adventure of doing a several-days-long ongoing downwinder along the tropical and largely deserted sandy beaches of Ceará, Piaui, and Maranhão in North Brazil. It comes with the service and support to make it a truly enjoyable tour with a minimum of worries and plenty of new things to see and experience.
Downwind Kitesafari makes sure you are not on your own when something happens. They always have a guide on the water to help you avoid the rare rock in the water and to help you when your material does not.
There is also always a Hilux on the beach close to you. They are air-conditioned so you can cool off a bit after hours in the sunshine. There is always water for you on board, and some small snacks to keep you going. In the Exploring the North and Northeast Coast Experience tours they use boats as support instead of a car; this is because it is an area without meaningful roads. Our guides are equipped with speakers and satellite phones.
In addition to your guides, the tour is supported by their back-office and that means there is always a fixed point-of-contact to organize things for you while you are kiting far away from all 'connected' life.
This is Downwind Kitesafari’s downwinder with perfect kite conditions. The water between the clean breaking waves is as smooth as a mirror. After passing Guriu, you arrive at the river mouth with shallow water in the river and beautiful big waves in the ocean. It's difficult to continue kiting at this stunning spot, because you will want to stay there all day.
Kiting continues along the coast with relatively shallow waters and small waves. Apart from a few fishermen on the road, you meet no one. From Bitubita, you continue by car to Barra Grande, a kite paradise which is still a largely undiscovered spot.
You start your 18 kilometers downwinder in Barra Grande. After two kilometers, you reach a huge flat water lagoon and stay there for some freestyle action. The next highlight and breathtaking new spot, Macapa, is just downwind from the lagoon. After a little snack, you continue riding until you reach your cozy pousada directly in front of another nice kite spot. To top it off, you will have a nice evening session, right in front of the pousada. You'll be riding some nice waves here.
Early in the morning, you drive to Parnaiba and meet your private motorboat at the harbor. If you are lucky you will see monkeys, crabs, and caimans during your boat ride to the secret spot. This unique place is a river mouth with mirror-smooth water where you will start your downwinder.
The Delta do Parnaiba is the third-largest river delta in the world. Today, you kite around half the delta until you reach a river mouth called Barra do Meio. There, your boat is already waiting for you. Enjoy the ride back to the pousada along the small, narrow river tributaries surrounded by mangroves.
Your boat brings you to the river mouth Barra do Meio where you start the second part around the delta. After 26 kilometers, you are going to meet your boat again on an island called Ilha do Caju. By boat, you reach your daily goal, Tutóia, which is located on the other side of the delta.
Mirror-smooth water awaits you in Tutóia where the ocean is separated by a sandbank around one kilometer from the beach. You kite together to this sandbank, reaching the open sea and riding on small waves. In Cabure, your luggage will be picked up by a boat and goes directly to the pousada. You will reach Atins passing the river by kite and arrive directly to Atins on the beach.
Upon arrival in Atins, you will immediately get the feeling that you have reached the end of the world. There are no roads built yet. Getting around the village is difficult because of the fine, deep sand. There are a few pousadas and restaurants. This little place is totally unspoiled and is situated in an untouched, natural landscape, despite having an absolutely fantastic kite spot right on its doorstep. At low tide, the water is like a mirror.
Kite out to the small sandbanks and freestyle endlessly between them with three or four other kiters. If the wind is good, you will do an 18 kilometers downwinder to Rio Negro, where the entrance is to the enormous Lençóis Maranhenses dune region with its thousands of small crystal-clear lagoons. The area covers 1,550 square kilometers and was declared a National Park on June 2, 1981. Firm dunes and shifting sand dunes range up to 40 kilometers into the interior. In spite of the relatively high levels of precipitation, this is Brazil’s only desert.
From Atins, you will take the boat to Cabure where the car will already be waiting for you. The ride goes over the main road directly back to Jijoca. In Jijoca, Downwind Kitesafari will organize a transport for you to bring you directly to your pousada in Jericoacoara.
In the months of November and December, there will be wave downwinders. These downwinders will be held during a higher tide, that means the waves will be bigger. This downwinder is for wavekiters (perfect to join with the waveboard).
A night safari is included in the price. If the wind is good, on the seventh day you will go to the entrance of Lençóis Maranhenses dune region in Rio Negro.
This surf camp will take place in the northern part of Brazil. You will kitesurf downwind from Jericoacoara to Camocim, Bitupita, Barra Grande, Parnaiba, Barra do Meio, Ilha do Caju, Tutoia, Atins, and Lencois Maranhenses, Rio Negro.
You will be served breakfast. Water, fruits, and snacks are available for you during the downwinders.
