My family - mother, father, and I spent four nights at this amazing, quiet and no-pressure resort. The resort is right on the beach, replete with a volleyball court, pool and the best view off the Kalpitiya beach. The resort is quiet and none of the rooms have a TV, so no loud discordant sound distracts the serenity. The Wi-Fi signal is a little iffy but serviceable. The rooms named after whales and dolphins are large, airy, canvas tents with A/C and king sized comfortable beds. The attached bathroom has both an indoor and outdoor shower. Don't bother with shoes - the sandy exterior feels amazing when you walk barefoot - complimentary reflexology massage if you will. Look up at the night sky and see the heavens in amazing clarity. There is a massive wind turbine next to the resort, but its sound blends in the background and even drowned out by the sound of waves crashing on to the beach. The food is made to order (within reason) and offers both Sri Lankan and Western dishes. My family asked for specific dishes, my father in particular loved their fish curry and had it pretty much morning, noon and night. Each was prepared with care and was delicious. Dean, the manager, is very charming, affable, and accommodating. The staff on site is friendly and attentive without being obsequious. Maduka has our nomination for best waiter in Sri Lanka. This is a very family friendly place and we will back again.

We spent three nights at Dolphin Beach after a busy 2 weeks touring Sri Lanka. It was the perfect end to a great holiday. Apart from going out on the dolphin watching trip (when we saw masses of dolphins), we just chilled and enjoyed the sea, pool and service. It really is a barefoot experience - we didn't wear shoes all the time we were there. There were other activities/excursions on offer but we didn't try them. Maduka, the steward, was excellent and encouraged us to try various local foods. Dean, the manager, was charming and always ready to help. The tents are comfortable and have everything you need plus a few quirky touches - e.g. a coffee pot as the tap turned on using a shell, outside showers. There are just nine tents. Carefully planted trees provide plenty of shade. The wind turbines are an ever present background noise but you tend not to notice after a while. Take anti-mozzy stuff as we were bitten. Now, back in rainy England, I am trying to hold onto the view from the sun lounger of a turquoise sea and blue skies.

This unique and stylish property actually improves with time. Have visited here several times over the last seven years and it is truly magical. After visiting Sri Lanka for over 28 years and living here as a resident for the last 15 years, this hotel is my favorite in the whole of Sri Lanka. Its quirky design and personal service makes this hotel stand out from others. Their latest addition is a beautiful swimming pool overlooking the sandy deserted beaches. The General Manager - Dean, was hands-on and made our stay very special. He has improved the food and as another restaurateur owner of Lords Restaurant Complex my standards are very high. The food was delicious and varied with a strong Asian and Sri Lankan influence but still having all the Western favorites available and a wood pizza oven with amazing home made pizzas. We intended to stay for three nights, but we extended this visit by another two days as we were so chilled out and relaxed.! Simply, once you arrive and envelope with this magic around you, you kick off your shoes and trousers and remain in bare feet and shorts for the balance of your stay! Was lucky to see a whale on the first outing to sea and the next day several hundred dolphins - this is truly an amazing experience and should not be missed by any visitors to Sri Lanka. Experienced the water sports, but would advise management there is a definite area for improvement in this area and need to publish a price list with water sports available as not very clear. Thank you to the team at Dolphin Beach! We will come back and visit you all soon - a unique and magical experience from beginning to end!

The manager Dean was very nice and provided us everything we liked - e.g. whale and dolphins watching. The resort offers accommodation for drivers for no extra charge. The tents were clean, secured by guard and everything was just perfect. I can highly recommend this place for people who do not like tourist areas.

We stayed at this resort for 4 nights, just two weeks ago. We had a family tent with two large bedrooms. The resort has luxury tents with air conditioning, electricity, Wi-Fi, etc. It is an amazing place, truly a beach hideout, with no TV. It is off the beaten track, with plenty of space in the resort, to walk, have a quiet time, very close to nature. The ocean is a home for the dolphins we saw at least 100. From here you can venture out on day tours, to Wilpattu safaris, to the historical City Anuradhapura, and Sigiriya the famous Rock Fortress. Dean, the manager, is very efficient and runs the place well. He knows the area very well and any request he will try and sort out. If you are coming with kids, bring some indoor games, for those tropical rainy days. There are two showers. One inside and the other outside. The outside one has a wall around the compound that gives you total privacy. Meanwhile the outside shower, the water coming from the coconut tree is quite quirky.

We stayed at Dolphin Beach for 5 nights over Christmas, as my daughter was getting married on Christmas Eve at a neighboring resort, Bar Reef (same owner). The bungalows are so quaint, if this is glamping, I love it! The rooms were clean, bright and air-conditioned (a must in Sri Lanka, IMO). Dean, the most charming manager ever, took us through our room and pointed out all the amenities. The staff were all so friendly and the food was great! The pool area was lovely with large sun beds available and towel service provided. There is free Wi-Fi available near the office / dining room, but not in the rooms themselves, which was fine for our group. On my daughter’s wedding day, the bridesmaids and female guests hung out around the pool while the boys hung out at Bar Reef. Dean helped make the day for the bride so special with champagne and a gorgeous, scrumptious luncheon. He also ensured that we had a shuttle for everyone to Bar Reef for the wedding. Not sure if we’ll be back to Sri Lanka, but if we do get there again, we will most definitely stay at Dolphin Beach! Thank you so much Dean and staff for making our stay so enjoyable and memorable!
