The surf classes will take place at the in-house surf school. The surf instructor will take you to the class at the beach. While the standard group size at surf schools is usually more than eight students per instructor, at the Maverick, there is a low student-to-instructor ratio, five to one, to ensure that you will receive the attention you need to improve your surfing quickly. The licensed surf instructors are passionate about what they are doing and their goal is to offer you the best surf experience possible. It’s all about fun, however, safety will be top priority!
Students are strictly required to follow the instructions of their teacher. Always keep to the safety rules. In the case of injury, inform your teacher without any delay. The Maverick is not responsible and will not reimburse a student if surf classes cannot occur due to adverse weather and ocean conditions (e.g. flat ocean, excessive wave size, fog, strong winds, etc.). Nevertheless, in these rare cases, the Maverick will make an alternative plan, for example, a theoretical class, surf-related trip, etc.
The program welcomes all surfers from beginners to more advanced surfers. Respect the schedules of the classes. The Maverick does not provide any exceptions to the regular surf class schedule. Let the staff know the day before if you are planning to take a rest day during your surf course. If you are expected for surf classes and you do not show up, the Maverick will make no refund.
The surf package includes 10 hours of surf coaching in small groups for all levels on 5 days. Each surf class is about 2hours long, one surf class per day, so in total 5 surf classes. You can choose the days freely during your stay, which gives you the option to take a day of rest, visit Lisbon or enjoy one of the other activities available at the Maverick. It is encouraged that you include a rest day after the first two days of surfing.
Through yoga, you will be feeling blissed out in no time. The Maverick believes that yoga can improve the strength, flexibility, and balance in the mind and the body, which will be helpful for your surf skills. Their yoga instructor will be offering either yoga classes in the morning or after the surf courses in the evening.
Yoga helps to strengthen the key physical points to the surfing practice, such as arms, legs, back, and wrists. It minimizes the risk of injuries and improves the recovery time after a surf session, which makes yoga so beneficial for your surf skills.
Hatha, Vinyasa, Aerial and Yin:
- Energizing and revitalizing Hatha and Vinyasa yoga to strengthen and tone your body structure and posture
- Deepening Yin yoga to reach the fasciae structures, connective tissues, and joints
- Fun Aerial yoga to defy gravity and allowing you to perform various yoga poses that may be difficult to do on the ground, but easier in mid-air
The lessons incorporate strengthening and releasing poses, working specific areas of the body that are required for surfing. You will also work on breathing awareness and relaxation techniques. Yoga is a great tool to bring with you out in the water, as it will improve your ability to catch waves and find the balance out there once you get the wave.
The yoga classes are suitable for beginners as well as more practiced yogis. The yoga lessons are 60 minutes and will be held in the yoga shala or spacious terrace with beautiful views of the countryside.
1 neck and shoulder massage is included in the package. Other massages available at extra cost.
