De Silva Windresort is situated in the best location at Kalpitiya lagoon. It offers the best conditions for your surfer's heart and desire of general well-being. All rooms of the eco-friendly Windresort have a terrace with hammocks for your personal refuge, but also, you'll find several relaxing points in the resort to get in contact with like-minded people. In connection with the De Silva Windresort individual and friendly service team, you will soon be a part of the surfer community. Feel immediately at home!

The resort is located about 30 meters from the lagoon. You will have a shuttle boat to bay at 08:45 every day and will come back for lunch at 12 noon. Then the boat will leave back at 14:00 and will come back at 17:00.

Standard room

The standard rooms are built in the typical style of Kalpitiya's region. Natural materials like the coconut leaves for the roof make the chambers very comfortable. Inside you have a big bed with a useful mosquito net and several hotel room facilities. The bathroom consists of a shower and European toilet. A balcony with hammock and a seat makes it an ideal place to chat and while away after your kitesurf day. De Silva Windresort Kalpitiya's team would appreciate serving you a drink while you relax on your terrace.

Day 1 (VDWS Level 1 – get a first insight)

  • Start with a trainer kite – learn to steer a small 2-line kite

Day 2 (VDWS Level 2 – get into the water)

  • On-shore, off-shore, side-shore – what’s that?

  • Set up your kite at the beach side on your own (assisted)
  • Launching and landing the kite at the beachside (assisted)
  • First steering sessions with a tube kite – start and land in the water
  • Get ready to become wet! Start with downwind body dragging

Licensing

Upon request, you can avail yourself of the Verband Deutscher Windsurfing und Wassersportschulen (VDWS) Kitesurfing license for 35 EUR or 40 EUR, including the workbook. It is an internationally accepted license with theoretical tests and practical-level confirmation.

Kitesurf licenses are a must-have at most kite spots, and for sure, it is a precondition to borrow equipment at most of the kite stations all over the world.

De Silva Windresort Kalpitiya

De Silva Windresort Kalpitiya was one of the 4 entrepreneurs that started kitesurfing in Kalpitiya, the only school that is led by a local and offers kitesurfing, windsurfing, wing-foiling and stand-up paddles. Upul De Silva, several times National Champion, brought the first kitesurfing to Sri Lanka from Europe in 2006.

The resort is officially awarded as the best water sports center by the Sri Lankan Tourism Association. They offer professional equipment from the north and professional instructors (VDWS and IKO). Their motto: "They´ll make you ride!"

For your further physical fitness, De Silva Windresort has beach volleyball and several fitness machines for muscle trainings.

How to get there

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB). Transfer from and to this airport is available on request. Just give De Silva Windresort Kalpitiya your flight details and they can arrange a transfer for 70 EUR. The drivers know exactly how to find the resort. Most of the tuk tuk drivers in the town know where De Silva Windresort Kalpitiya is and they can also arrange a tuk tuk for you if you're relatively close, or ask them to send you the directions to follow.

Arrival by bus

Take a tuk tuk from the airport to Colombo-Puttalam highway. From there, take a bus to Puttalam. On the way to Puttalam, there is a junction called "Palavi" which is exactly 5 kilometers before Puttalam. Get off the bus at Palavi Junction and from there you have two options to choose: either to take another bus to Kalpitiya or to hire a tuk tuk. Once you reach Kalpitiya by bus, take a tuk tuk to the resort.

Arrival by taxi

If you want to arrive in Kalpitiya in the most pleasant way then you should book De Silva Windresort Kalpitiya’s taxi service. Therefore, De Silva Windresort Kalpitiya asks you to send over your exact flight details, like flight number, time of arrival, and the exact date. Your taxi driver will wait at the exit hall of the airport for you to pick you up with all your luggage.
