Dar Surf is based in the laid-back fishing village of Taghazout, Morocco, located 40 minutes away from Al Massira Airport (AGA) in Agadir, which is a very short hop from most European countries. Once famous for calamari and hippies, Taghazout is now considered Morocco’s leading surf destination for both learners and pros. Taghazout stands out for its remarkable setting and its views are breathtaking. The sun shines the year round and its four miles of beaches are bound by the stunning high Atlas Mountains. Taghazout is one of the closest places for any European surfer who wants to experience Moroccan culture and ride perfect waves. For these reasons, and many more, people keep coming back to Taghazout from all over the world all year round.
Probably the best-known wave of the area is this long, beautiful right-hand point break. Many surfers across the world are in love with this spot and it can get very crowded, requiring a good level of surfing. Works best from low to mid tide on a two to five meters swell. Entering and exiting can be very tricky! Watch and learn before trying.
Banana beach is located south of Taghazout. In small swells, it has nice and easy left and right beach break waves, which are perfect for beginners.
A powerful right-hander with fast walls and open, vertical faces held open by the mountain breezes. An awesome spot frequented by photographers. This spot is for experts only due to hazardous entry and exit, crowds, and size.
Devil’s rock is located just five minutes’ drive from Taghazout, south of a rocky headland. It offers punchy lefts and rights. Its sandy bottom means it is great for beginners. This break works well on 0.5 to 1.5 meters swell.
Draculas is a very powerful and fast right-hander with hazardous rocks. A low tide break for experienced surfers only.
There are many stories about the name of this surf spot. Most people say it was named after the lazy hash smokers, too stoned to make the short walk to Anchor Point. It’s a fast right-hander that works well with a large swell. The locals prefer it because it’s right in the center of Taghazout, although other point breaks are of much higher quality.
One of the longest-breaking waves in the area. A right-hander that forms over a reef section by the harbor wall and breaks over a sand bottom for up to 500 meters. You can wade out to the line-up, catch the longest ride of your life, and walk back up to the point having hardly paddled at all!
Killer Point is a legendary wave named after the migrating whales that can sometimes be spotted here. It’s a long, powerful right-hander suitable for experienced and competent surfers.
The seabed is a mixture of sand and rock reef, providing fun lefts and rights from low to high. This is for intermediate to advanced surfers.
Mysteries is a long right-hander that works on low to mid tide. Good for intermediate and advanced surfers.
Situated at the edge of Taghazout is this long, mellow right-hand point where you can either jump from the rocks or just paddle out from the beach depending on the swell size and your ability level. Not as hardcore or as crowded as the more famous point breaks.
When Taghazout is flat, Tamri is the beach break to go to. A stunning and wild spot offering a wide beach break. Currents can be is strong but there are lots of fun waves to be had by all levels including beginners.
Breakfast is served daily on the terrace, offering a mix of Moroccan and European food lovingly prepared by Dar Surf's passionate chef. The breakfast menu varies daily, but usually includes an omelette, fresh avocado, tomatoes, bread, with condiments including jam/honey, fresh fruit, yoghurt, tea and coffee, and fresh Moroccan orange juice. Please let the team know if you have any dietary requirements and they can cater for your needs.
Dar Surf varies their dinner menu every night but all of their dishes are delicious, authentic, and traditional. The team hosts a weekly barbecue night and cooks a mix of traditional tagine and couscous dishes every night. All of their meals include lots of fresh vegetables, healthy salads, and fresh meat and fish. Dar Surf caters for all dietary needs on request.
In Morocco, you can find a mixture of Arabic, Berber, and European food. Restaurant prices are very reasonable and the quality is good. The closest restaurant serving wine and beer is located in Banana village, a 10-minute drive from Taghazout. There are also several restaurants in Agadir serving alcohol. Please also note that although the locals drink tap water, we advise guests to buy bottled water which is widely available in the village at a low cost.
Beside surfing, swimming, and relaxing on the beach, there are many other activities to enjoy around the area such as walking in the mountains, swimming in the clear waters of Paradise Valley, quad biking, and visiting the fascinating local markets.
