Accommodation

Check-in Time:
16:00

Costa Dulce grew very naturally as an eco resort and did so in the middle of nature. Each of the 11 bungalows and cabins has been designed with surrounding trees and plants taken into account (in some cases the trees grow through the building). Premium rooms have an incredible view of the ocean and all cabins are close to the beach.

All bungalows have been built to take advantage of the local Papagayo winds to keep you cool without using too much electricity. The eco-lodge grey water is processed and used to water the garden and grow food.

The rustic luxury place is a modern day Robinson Crusoe house; hammocks with ocean views instead of couches with televisions and naturally cool rooms instead of AC. There are bugs around, as you are in the jungle after all, so don't be surprised when you come across wildlife close to the resort or passing through.

There are many measures in place to enhance the sustainability of Costa Dulce. For example electricity and warm water for the entire retreat are won through solar power.

Program

Costa Dulce Surf School

The surf school is led by local instructors, who are really stoked to do what they love and pass that love on to you. They will help you patiently in English and Spanish and guide you step by step in your exciting surf journey.

Your instructors will also introduce you to the tips and tricks for an unforgettable surf experience in our educational Surf Clinic, where the guides unveil the secrets to the perfect surf, the waves, the pop-ups, and the swell. Prepare well on land, to make the most out of your experience in the water.

Surf retreat

A week-long surf retreat is a great way to experience everything Costa Dulce has to offer and finally learn how to surf. Enjoy your days with no crowds, intimate instruction, and all-day offshore wind. Come and make the most out of your surf vacation and actually learn how to surf.

During your week you will get lots of time in the water and be able to practice everything you are learning with your personal surf instructor. To finish off the week surf photography will be taken and you will leave happy with a new skill and some action shots!

How to get there

Recommended Airports

COVID-19 update (Last updated 03.12.2020)

There are still different ways to get to Costa Dulce. Here are the ones that we find most convenient:

Flying to Managua:

There are direct flights with Avianca from Miami and El Salvador. Avianca is the only airline that reliably flies to Managua at the moment (12/2020). Watch out: Other airlines say so, but actually don’t!

Through Costa Rica:

Costa Rica is open to everyone and does not require a negative Covid-19 test. You do need a specific health insurance though which you can buy per day (you can get the health insurance for example through Heymondo or the official Sagicor Insurance). You also need a filled out health pass and proof for onwards travel, for example your outward flight or a bus ticket. Equipped like that you can get a flight either to San José or to Liberia. If you can, pick Liberia, as it is closer to the border to Nicaragua. From the airport you can get a private taxi or a bus (e.g. Nicabus or Ticabus) to the border. The bus is a lot cheaper, but sometimes booked out. A private driver will help you cross the border and make sure you have everything that you need. To get into Nicaragua – no matter if via air or land border – you need a negative Covid-19 test not older than 72 hours. At the land border that test needs to be a printout on paper, not electronical.

Whichever way you’re coming into Nicaragua, we’re happy to help you arrange your travel and make that everything goes smooth.

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport (LIR) or Augusto C. Sandino International Airport (MGA). Augusto C. Sandino International Airport (MGA) is the most straightforward option. The team will arrange your pick up and bring you straight down to the hotel.

Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport (LIR) is actually a little bit closer to the hotel but there is a border to cross which means a vehicle change. The drivers will help you through the borders making for an easy border crossing. The advantages to flying through Liberia is it's quite often cheaper and there are more frequent flights.

Transportation is not included but the team does arrange a private shuttle from Augusto C. Sandino International Airport (MGA) for 110 USD and 120 USD from Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport (LIR). Since the retreats start on Saturdays, you should have someone to share the cost of the ride with so typically the price can be 35 USD and 45 USD respectively.

Airport: Augusto C. Sandino International Airport Airport transfer available: Augusto C. Sandino International Airport (US$ 110 per person) Additional charges may apply. You can request this in the next step.
