Canvas bell tents, airbeds, and pillows are provided.
Arriving at the farm, you’ll be welcomed by a member of the team, and Missy, the friendly farm dog. They’ll show you where you can park securely for the night. If you have a lot of stuff, you’re welcome to use the truck to help with transporting your belongings down to the woods. As the farm is a working farm, they do ask if you can take all you need for the night and to let them know if you need to return to your car.
The woodland holds two separate wild camps, you’ll be shown to your camp where you can drop your belongings before a quick tour of the rest of the campsite. After the quick tour, you’re free to do as you please. Settle into your tents, make use of the game’s areas or get your barbecue started, it’s up to you.
You’re welcome to lounge around, take a walk in the woods, or simply enjoy the sound of the birds. The mornings can be a special place in woodland and you're welcome to make the most of it. They kindly ask you to check out by 10 a.m.
A truly unique space, the private woodland holds several secluded camping areas and shared spaces for activities, socializing, and shelter, all designed to be in keeping with the natural woodland whilst providing a comfortable space to enjoy a special evening in the outdoors.
They offer true wild camping without the hassle. Although you’ll have everything you need for a comfortable night under the stars, please be aware there’s a composting toilet on site, and fresh water is provided for washing up, but otherwise, you’ll be without facilities in the peaceful countryside. They do provide water/sink area for washing hands and a lovely composting toilet.
They currently only offer one or two night stays per booking. Please note certain areas of the woodland are communal and shared with other private guests, adventure weekend participants, and groups. The wild camp is nestled in the heart of Cornwall on a live working dairy farm. Just a short drive from Newquay and with easy access to the A30.
Real wild camping is the act of camping in the middle of the great outdoors, ideally with not a soul around. And of course without leaving a trace! However, they have crafted their very own wild campsite deep in the private Cornish woodland with everything you need for a comfortable night under the stars. It's camping but not as you know it!
You’ll be sleeping in shared canvas bell tents provided with an air bed and pillow. Upon arrival, you’ll have time to settle into your tent before getting stuck in with some fun woodland games, learning camping hacks and barbecue cooking. 2 super fun surf lessons in Newquay
1 thrilling coasteering session
Unique hosted wild camping experience like no other.
A quick rundown of how the weekend unfolds. Your weekend consists of two surf lessons, a coasteering session, and an overnight camp at the private wild campsite. Saturday is the big day with two water activities and wild camping. Each of the water activities is two hours long and includes all the kits, you’ll need a few personal items for each activity and the weekend so make sure you see the packing list before you arrive.
Kick the weekends off early at 9 a.m. with a warm welcome from your hosts/guides, introductions, and an overview of how the weekend will run. Your hosts are with you all weekend so if you have any questions about the weekend, make sure you check in with them for any assistance, whether it’s logistics or something more technical about your activities, they are sure to be able to help you out.
The weekend weather, tide, and surf conditions will decide which activities they schedule for the morning or afternoon, so come prepared for either surfing or coasteering. The below description should give you a good idea of how a typical itinerary plays out. Once you’ve all meet each other, it’s time to grab a wetsuit and surfboard for the first of the weekend’s surf lessons.
Whether you are experienced or it’s your first time, the surf coaches are on hand to offer advice and guide you throughout your surfing lesson. 95% of people who join are brand new to surfing, so don’t worry if you think you’ll be the only person who hasn’t tried surfing, you’ll be in good company!
Break the surf lesson down into stages, each stage has a short beach session where the surf coach can easily describe and demonstrate the technique, as well as giving you the chance to practice and perfect your method before hitting the waves. In the initial stage, you’ll learn beach safety and how to manage your board, before practicing your prone surfing and catching waves on your stomach from waist depth, back to the sand.
It's then into the sea to practice what you were taught in the first section, your surf coach is on hand in the water with you giving feedback and helping you into waves. Once everyone has had a chance to hone their skills in the water, it’s back on the sand for the next stage of the surf lesson, how to stand up! As with anything, there is a method to the madness and proven techniques to help you get riding waves back to the shore looking the part!
You’ll have plenty of time between activities to grab some lunch, take a stroll around Newquay’s many surf shops or head back to the base and hang out in the garden. Newquay has a great vibe during the summer with plenty to look at, just ask for some recommendations on where to go and what to see.
After lunch, it’s time for the afternoon’s activity, coasteering. Once your group is kitted out, you’ll take a short walk over to the coasteering location, commonly known as the "Gazzle". Don’t worry if you aren’t confident in the sea or have never tried coasteering before, your knowledgeable guide will explain and demonstrate all the skills you need to have a fantastic time coasteering.
Coasteering is a fantastic and dynamic activity that can comprise of several elements such as wild swimming, low-level traversing, and everyone’s favorite, deep water cliff jumps.
Not to mention scrambling up gullies, swimming through sluices, getting washed around in whirlpools, exploring large caves, or learning about the local fauna and flora. Coasteering is an activity governed by the tide, sea state on the day, and of course, group ability. Set the session times to reflect the best tide conditions of the day. Guaranteeing they're able to provide the best coasteering possible.
Once the day’s water activities are finished, you’ll have time to grab your belongings for the evening and visit the supermarket across the road from the base before you leave in convoy to the wild campsite. They recommend some barbecue food and one or two of your favorite drinks, they’ll provide the rest.
For those without transport, they’ll help you arrange a lift share with other members of the group. The wild camp is a lovingly crafted space in their own private woodlands set on a working dairy farm in the heart of Cornwall. After a quick introduction to the camp, you’ll want to settle into your shared bell tent (air bed and pillow provided) before the evening activities begin.
With ax throwing, balance games, and firefighting skills there’s plenty going on throughout the evening to keep you entertained. Finish the night off with stories around the campfire, roasting marshmallows, or one or two of your favorite drinks before sleeping soundly under the stars.
Sunday morning starts with tea and coffee, simple cereals, and fruit. If you have personal dietary requirements or feel you’d need something more substantial, please ensure you bring this with you. After breakfast, it’s time to wave goodbye to the wild camp and head back to Newquay, jump into a wetsuit, and hit the Cornish waves one last time.
Your second surf lesson builds on the previous day's experience, today is all about having fun in the surf! After a general overview of surf conditions, recapping the fundamentals, it’s straight into the ocean to get the most of your time in the sea, your coaches will, as always, be on hand giving personal feedback and goals to aim for in your surfing. By 1 p.m., you are typically all surfed out, with your appetite for adventure satisfied it’s time to say fond farewells.
Coasteering in Newquay is an amazing and unforgettable way to experience the Cornish coastline. You’ll be in a wetsuit, trainers, buoyancy aid, and a helmet as you make your way along the tide line. A breakfast of cereals, fruit, tea, and coffee is provided by Cornish Wave. However, Cornish Wave asks that you bring your own food for the evening. Simple is best as you will be barbecuing and cooking over the camp's open fire. You can buy all you need after the day's activities at Sainsbury's, located across the road from the base.
You will be able to barbecue your food over the open fire. There are basic kitchen facilities on-site and you will be provided utensils, etc. You will also need to bring one liter of drinking water (per person).
Whiskers is a great little coffee shop by day and a lively boutique bar by night. They boast homemade locally sourced produce and their very own coffee bean, Morale. Organic wines, local craft beers, and ciders topped off with live music are on the menu each evening.

Either visit their refurbished visitor center or buy a pint or two in Newquay’s bars. Originally distilled at a ridiculously high percentage Cornish rattler is marketed as the cider with a bite. The home of rattler Healeys Cider farm is around twenty minutes from Cornish Wave Surf School in Newquay. If you intend to visit for some tasting make sure that you have a designated driver.
