Pressing pause is sometimes all we need. Life can often seem like there is little to no opportunity to press reset. Juggling life, work, and everything in-between and with the social conditioning of putting everything else first before ourselves, running on empty has become part and parcel of life. But what if your reset wasn’t to undo the things that dwelled within your mind, but to embrace them and completely change your perspective of them? A total, mind, body, and soul rest, helping to create the foundation of what is to come. This immersion weekends are moments to truly focus on self. They are weekends that challenge your perspective and viewpoint of personal obstacles, challenges, and uncertainties. Giving you a stronger understanding of self and a better perspective of your life and your place within it. Connecting you deeper to people and place within a supportive yet accountable space.

El Otro Lado is a 5-star luxury accommodation located in Bahia Portobelo, Panama. El Otro Lado is a magical and transformative space. Located within the intimate community of Portobelo, which consists of just 5,000 people who express themselves through the language of art and music and to this day evoke their roots of the vibrant Congo Culture. Nestled on a UNESCO World Heritage, National Park, nearby Fort San Lorenzo, boasting sea, lagoons, and expansive jungle all beautifully integrated, creating a powerful and picturesque backdrop.

The yoga spaces are fully equipped with yoga mats, blankets, and meditation cushions. You don’t need to bring anything from home. Unless Consciously Connected Travel states otherwise.

Program

Something that sets humans apart from most other animals is our sense of belonging. We have lived side by side since the beginning of time, which has led us to be remarkably social creatures. Belonging to a group provides comfort and stability by increasing longevity, and therefore improving our chance of survival. We are on a perpetual quest to find our tribe, but more often than not, our desires get the best of us. The idea of “fitting in” undermines self-worth and we end up adapting to what appears to be normal or right. This causes us to lose sight of who we are, straying us away from acceptance, and down the road to insecurity.

Self-acceptance goes beyond tolerating the way you view yourself. It is accepting your behavior, attitude, and lifestyle, acknowledging them, and working towards making the desired change. It includes accepting your body, protecting yourself against harsh criticism, and believing in your capabilities. Practicing self-acceptance helps you to realize your qualities, both bad and good, and eases feelings of guilt and unhappiness. When we begin to accept who we are, we set ourselves up for improvement.

Self-acceptance allows you to understand and acknowledge your character traits and habits, which will lead you away from comparing yourself to others. Rather than focusing on what you don’t have, you will begin to acknowledge what you were given and embrace it. By directing your attention and energy away from others and towards yourself, you’ll open the doors to blazing your own trail. You’ll find confidence in manifesting intentions because you will no longer be held back by the feeling of unworthiness.

This Consciously Connected Retreats are a safe yet accountable space and means for seekers to transcend the realm of the physical and instill virtues of compassion, love, and egolessness, marrying an intentionally cultivated selection of ancient and contemporary conduits through which one can introspect. Only through that introspect is space created for healing, and understanding and discovery of self and your place within your own personal realities and the world around you.

Nestled in Portobello with the Panamanian rainforest as its backdrop, overlooking the famous UNESCO world heritage site, sits the sleepy creative port of Portobelo. With an intimate creative community of just 5000 people, at the heart of the Congo Culture which marries black, indigenous, and colonial ancestries. Portobello is infamous for the music and musicians, art and artisans that inhabit this breathtaking land. A creative cacophony that will support you in your journey of self-acceptance.

Allowing yourself to return to a childlike state of play and playfulness, freedom, and inquiry can unlock something powerful and transformative in supporting you in your understanding of self and how you become more accepting of your entire being.

The Afro-Latina culture and African ancestry runs through the veins of the people of Portobelo. While the powerful, tribal West African drums are a constant echo played in ceremony and rituals, while the women and men dance in praise or prayer. The hypnotic rhythms evoke a tribal trance that blurs the veil of the physical and the spiritual realms, which can only be achieved when one relinquishes utter control and aligns mind, body, and spirit fully in the present.

To see a Diablo or a Congo dancing is to witness the free spirit that comes in contact with its ancestors, giving it life and movement.

A mindful existence is something Consciously Connected Travel strives to cultivate within all of their retreats. With mindful eating being a core element that we weave into the fabric of each retreat journey. They align with an innovative conscious chef and curate a seasonal, locally sourced, and locally grown menu, that fuses with the intention and theme of each retreat space. With Acceptance being this retreat's focus, a tasteful menu adopting mood-inducing, mind, and body soothing and nurturing ingredients, spices, and properties will be served throughout.

Water plays a powerful part throughout this retreat and your journey of self-acceptance. Water across tribes and for centuries has been used as a modality to purge, cleanse, restore, release and purify. Water provides an unwavering platform for rebirth. A rebirth of mind, body, and soul coming into a new understanding and acceptance of self.

With daily surf lessons provided by Bo Stanley, teamed with rebirth water ceremonies, transformative rainforest hikes, yoga, meditation, breathwork and self-acceptance workshops, Consciously Connected Travel will be using nature as the ultimate healer in your journey to self-acceptance. Meditation can be adapted through every daily activity, finding solace amidst the mundane. Arriving at solitude through various forms of creative expression.

Learn about Congo Art directly from one the local artists of the Portobelo Bay Foundation. Let your mind flow freely, therapeutically purging and releasing in a safe artistic environment where colours, traditions and nature are key elements of inspiration, restoration and release.

Portobelo affords you the unrivalled opportunity for rediscovery of self through discover of a place and its people. The opportunity to pour our hearts into a small community grounded in tradition, history and heritage. An opportunity for deep and enriching conscious connections that create shifts within yourself while creating impactful and sustainable catalysts for change within the community.

Focus

This retreat will immerse you deeply into local Congo Culture and the local community. The powerful stories of the people of Portobelo will transport you into a completely different world. Understanding their journey and their world, while we support them daily through philanthropic activations, utilising art, music, surf and so much more.

While you also experience your personal journey of self-acceptance with daily surf provided by Bo Stanley teamed with connected yoga and mediation that delves deeper into your mind, body connection, teamed with self-acceptance workshops and powerful 1-2-1 sessions that support in helping you to craft and cultivate your own personal Self-Acceptance rituals and practices. But most importantly supporting you in unmasking the things that are holding you back.

While practicing self-acceptance, you will uncover hidden gifts and talents that you didn’t know about yourself. Sometimes negativity can cloud our judgment and willingness to try new things, limiting time for self-exploration. By accepting what makes you individual, you’re creating a space for discovery to explore interests that, otherwise, you may have not given time to. Becoming comfortable with oneself will induce supportive self-talk and bring passion to your self-care practices. When you begin caring for yourself, by eating well and tending to your body, you’ll find that you have more energy. Self-acceptance means being in control of your life, which will leave you feeling empowered and confident.
