Casa Marea Alta's ocean front yoga and surf house is located directly on the ocean, surrounded by hundreds of acres of pristine rainforest. Spend your time immersed in the rainforest and surfing a consistently working warm water beach break right out front of your door. You'll be staying in ocean front cabinas nestled at the bottom of over 800 acres of rainforest. This means ample privacy, many opportunities to explore the jungle and wildlife, and lots of waves. They have room for up to 24 guests, and all of their rustic cabinas have their own private entrance, bathroom, shower, and access to the shared fully-equipped kitchen.

Casa Marea Alta Costa Rica Surf Camp Itinerary

Casa Marea Alta's basic trip is 100% catered to what you want to do. Hit the waves whenever you like, and never feel obligated to miss your chance at catching the perfect wave.

Day 1

  • Arrive at Casa Marea Alta.
  • Enjoy a mini tour of the wave, the lodge, the town, and go surfing.

Day 2 to 6

  • Cold breakfast included and served at 05:30.
  • Surf or sign up for one of the tours, surfing lessons, yoga classes, and more.

Day 7

  • Cold breakfast included and served at 05:30.
  • Surf early morning waves.
  • Check out before noon.


Casa Marea Alta is nestled at the bottom of 800 acres of privately owned rainforest and sits directly in front of an uncrowded world class beach break. It is located at the very end of the road on the pacific coast of Costa Rica. Literally, you can not drive further, the road ends at the beach and the jungle. Being so far away, makes this place uniquely special. There is less tourism influence and more of that well-known Pura Vida vibe. Punta Banco is a small village of about 80-100 families who live there year-round. About six kilometers from there is the famous surfing town of Pavones. Spend a few days down there, and you’ll know what it truly means to unwind and disconnect. With epic uncrowded waves and beautiful lush rainforest, you’ll always have something to do, see, and talk about.

Included in this package are daily cold breakfast, fruits, coffee, and tea. You will also have access to the shared fully-equipped kitchen. Hot breakfast and dinner are available upon request. There are a few restaurants and sodas located in the area. If you are not having meals with Casa Marea Alta, you can head towards Pavones where you will find a small variety of restaurants, sodas, and bars along the way and in town.

Things to do (optional)

Casa Marea Alta offer a variety of tours and excursions you can sign up for when you arrive or ahead of time. This makes it easy for you to pick whether you want to surf, or join them on a guided jungle hike, in a yoga class, fishing and surfing boating tour, and more! They have everything you need to get the most out of your surfing in paradise adventure.

Aerial yoga workshop

Usually about a one hour workshop teaching you how to use aerial silks and going through a class so you can feel comfortable hopping on a swing at home. 

Bicycle rental

Rent their banana bikes and bike around the wonderful and peaceful town of Punta Banco and Pavones.

Chocolate tour

Join the towns' "Chocolate Man" on an educational and delicious afternoon learning about how to make fresh chocolate from cacao seeds. So yummy, you won't regret buying an extra bar or two after this class!

Fishing tours

Half day fishing trip in Gulf Dulce (sweet gulf). This gulf in the Pacific is enriched with a variety of species of fish. Take a day out and enjoy the crystal clear waters and catch a couple fish. You bring back what you catch, and they help you cook it for dinner.

Guided jungle tour

This is an amazing tour of the jungle with many chances to see birds, monkeys, coatis, sloths, and more. You'll go on a trail through the jungle looking at various animals, plants, fruits, waterfalls, with experienced and certified nature guides. Casa Marea Alta neighbor an 800 acre private biological reserve, which they work closely with.

Guided nocturnal tour 

A night tour in the jungle with their experienced guide. This gives you a chance to see red eye tree frogs, other species of frogs, aguti pacas, spiders, and snakes. A truly unique look at the jungle nocturnal life.

Horseback riding on the beach and jungle 

About a four hour ride through the jungle and galloping on the beach. You have the option to ride all day if you enjoy it.

Paddle boarding tours

Stand up and paddle the beautiful Pacific coast of Punta Banco and Pavones, Costa Rica. Enjoy stunning jungle views, warm waters, and peaceful paddling.

Surfing lesson

About two to four hours surfing lesson. Great for absolutely beginners to intermediate surfers.


The clear waters of the pacific ocean are perfect for snorkeling. Bring your gear and they'll find you the perfect place to look for unique fish and coral. (free of charge, bring your own snorkeling equipment).

Stand up paddle board yoga

Take a private paddle board yoga class on the warm and beautiful Pacific Ocean. Learn to keep your balance and challenge your asana practice while enjoying stunning views of the Costa Rican coastline. Private class one to two hours depending on level of comfort. Must be a strong swimmer.

Yoga classes

Casa Marea Alta's on-staff 200 hour yoga teacher offers two daily yoga classes that you can join. Spend time on the open-air yoga deck in the jungle, opening up your body and mind to the movement of yoga, and connecting to nature.

Spa treatments

Back and shoulder massage

Enjoy a relaxing back and shoulder massage while you listen to the waves gently roll to shore.

Crystal and chakra energy healing session

Relax and allow your chakras to unwind as the energy healer works with your main chakras to find imbalances and realign your energetic structure.

Extra Thai bodywork and massage

Relaxing and massaging the body through passive stretching and breath work.

Foot and back massage

Relax after a long hike in the jungle with a nice foot rub and unwind to the soothing sounds of the ocean.

Reiki session

An ancient Japanese relaxation method to clear the energy fields around the body and relax the mind.

Tai bodywork session

The on-staff certified tai bodywork is happy to help you unwind and relax those tight surfing muscles. Using passive stretching and breath movement, they work deeply into the muscle tissue to release tension and put you at ease.

How to get there

Driving directions from San Jose

  • Leave San Jose on the new highway heading to Jaco. Before entering Jaco, take the coastal road south.
  • Travel south passing turns for Playa Hermosa, Quepos, and Dominical.
  • In Palmar you will meet with the Pan-Am Highway go right. Fill up on gas or diesel here. This is the last real gas station, unless you are going into Golfito. You can get fuel in Pavones, but only from a drum at the hardware store.
  • Then, in Rio Claro go right again. There will be a sign for Pavones around four to five miles on the right side of the road, but be aware and pay attention. You will need to take a hard switch back left turn at this sign. The Rodeo Bar is on this corner. If you get to Golfito you have gone too far and missed the turn - go back and watch for the Rodeo Bar.
  • The rest of the way will be marked with new signs and will take around one and a half hours.
  • Make a right in Pueblo Nuevo.
  • Make another right in Conte, there is a supermarket and bar here.
  • You will be on the road to Pavones (45 minutes from this point).
  • Stay left at the two forks in the road after Conte. The other roads go to Zancudo.
  • Upon arrival to Pavones youʼll pass the grocery store, Rio Claro Bridge, and Pavones Point Break. Stay on the beach road about six kilometers more passing over a couple bridges and through the Pavones beach.
  • Look for Tiskita Jungle Lodge on the left. Casa Marea Alta are directly after them. You’ll see a sign for Casa Marea Alta. Let them know in advance what time youʼll be heading out so they can gage the arrival time. They'll try and be out front to wait for you.

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Golfito Airport (GLF).

Arrival by bus

From San José, you can buy a ticket at the Tracopa Terminal (every taxi drivers knows where it is). If possible, buy your ticket a day in advance, because it can get crowded, especially in the weekends.

Take the 7:00 bus to Golfito, which arrives there around 14:30. This trip costs about 12 USD.

From Golfito take the bus to Pavones at 15:00. It departs near the supermarket across the street from the hospital. This is about a two to three hour trip and costs around 2.40 USD. In case of a lack of time, you can get off the bus at T-junction kilómetro 14 (between Golfito and Pavones) and get on the Pavones bus there. Whatever you do, make sure you are on that bus, because it only goes to Casa Marea Alta once a day.

You’ll arrive in front of Tiskita (which is a lodge located directly next door to Casa Marea Alta) around 18:00.

To return to San Jose, buses depart Pavones daily at 5:30, and 12:30 for Golfito. They depart Golfito in front of the Deposito Libre at 5:00 and 13:30.The trip takes about eight hours and costs 12 USD.

Arrival by taxi

When you land in Golfito Airport, you can catch a cab to Punta Banco, which can cost between 80 USD and 100 USD.
