Mafalda Fonseca

Mafalda is the founder of the project. In 2014, she decided to take a sabbatical period and traveled around the world. At the beginning of 2016, she felt the desire to return home in the middle of mother nature. From this return, was born the desire to create a project with deep roots and at the same time inspired by movement and freedom. This place brought to her all this. Here, she could feel the kiss of the breeze, the embrace of the winds, and the freedom to dance in the woods. From here, has reborn the connection with the earth that she wants to share with everyone who visit this place.

José Pedro Pereira

José has been practicing and teaching yoga for the past 11 years. He teaches Hatha yoga using the knowledge of his studies in the Iyengar tradition. He also lived at the Ashram Bihar School of Yoga in Índia for six months, where he emerged in the ancient tradition of yoga and tantra. The Vipassana meditation and the men's group work at the Awakened Life Project are big influences on his path.

Duarte Coelho

Duarte Coelho dedicates his life to the practice and teaching of Kitesurfing and SUP in Portugal (Lisbon and Setúbal). This passion was born in May of 1998 when he for the first time tried a traction kite in the air and felt the pleasure of the flight and the power, and the speed of the wind in the hands. He has certifications for IKO (International Kiteboarding Organization), French Free Flight Federation, Portuguese Sailing Federation, and Portuguese Surfing Federation. He holds a degree in sports management from the faculty of human motricit.

We really enjoyed our stay at Casa do Pateo. Mafalda was very warm and welcoming and surprised us everyday with a new delicious vegetarian meal. Small groups for yoga and kitesurfing made us feel like being part of a big family. The nearby lagoon is perfect for beginners and intermediate kitesurfers and our surf teachers gave their best to improve our skills as much as possible. We definately recommend this place.

Caso do Pateo is a wonderful place in the middle of the nature. Despite the high temperatures you will find yourself in the middle of the woods, which gives the place a peaceful atmosphere. Given the fact that most people will book a retrait to let go of everyday life, this is rather nice. Next to the place itself, the host (Mafalda) is also very welcoming. She is always up for a conversation or two and cooks great vegetarian meals. If you want to she also can take the time to show you the best coastal areas. In some sense she is both host and guest at the same time. Both the surfing and yoga are great as well. I had some experiencing in surfing and little in yoga. My yoga teachers were Jose and Marsha both were very patient, which was really needed as I am not the most flexible human being around. For the latter part the dome in Mafalda's garden is great. Especially Jose really has a lot of helping attributes which can help you training the more complicated postures. In addition to the classes they love to tell about yoga in general and about their passion for it after class which for someone new to yoga is very nice to hear about. They managed to get me sign up for yoga classes in Rotterdam. Surfing was also good, altough there was not that much wind. The place is perfect for people ranging from beginner to expert as it is situated not on the actual sea (but you can go there as well), so you don't have to surf on waves if you can't. All in all it was a great first retrait

Caso do Pateo has in the past been more focussed on Portuguese people. All teachers and Mafalda herself speak propper English, but the guests were mostly Portuguese when I was there. This is on the one hand quite nice, because you can here some stories from the locals about life in Portugal. On the other hand I was travelling alone, and it would have been nice to meet some fellow travellers as well. However, if you combine your stay at the caso with a trip to Lisbon or something like that you will have the best of both worlds.

It was a very nice place in the middle of nature. It was quiet and perfect to relax and calm down from daily stress. The guesthouse was very nicely decorated whit a lot of homemade stuff. The breakfast which can be taken outside in garden beyond trees was great and the staff was very nice and helpful. All in all, I spent a great time at Casa do Páteo
