Eat, sleep, surf, and do yoga with the mighty ocean on your doorstep, and the majestic Table mountain range behind you. Take part in a rejuvenating, energizing experience at the southern tip of Africa with up to four hours of daily yoga classes, workshops, individual sessions, and learning about mindfulness and yoga philosophy. Surf, rest, and enjoy delicious healthy food and a bit of exploring of Cape Town's many famous delights.
All rooms are simply decorated, cleaned daily, with wooden floors, high ceilings, and have sweeping sea-views, some with their own private balconies. There are multiple areas to relax, from quiet reading nooks, sunny lounges, a massive balcony to watch the waves from, a games room, and a roof-top terrace with 360 degree views of the surrounds.
Hot water is solar heated; there is a recycling program and free Wi-Fi available in the common areas. You can stay in one of the six double rooms or in one of the three balcony rooms. They all have seaviews and come equipped with bedside tables and reading lamps. The balcony rooms also have a table and chairs so you can soak up the views.
Take part in an exceptional yoga and surf program that explores a quest for health and wisdom through the practice of yoga, and its integration into modern living. Participants can choose from a daily easy flow or power flow session, or do both! Daily workshops explore aspects of surf and yoga, the basics of yoga, and advanced practices which are further explored in the evening talks seamlessly blending into a unique opportunity for beginners, or an excellent opportunity for more advanced practitioners to experience a week of high quality instruction in a great location. Below you will find a tentative schedule that is subject to changes in order to make the best of the weather conditions. All sessions are one hour long except the 30 minute morning meditation sessions.
The workshop program will lead participants through a series of aspects specific to the retreat. This will help ground your vacation in a practical, simple, and extraordinary experience of the life transforming potential of yoga.
A brief evaluation of each individual’s ability, intentions, and expectations helps a lot with assisting each course participant to make the best of the retreat opportunities. One-on-one instruction and personal training can be used to maximize each participant’s individual opportunities for increased performance skills or remedial (yoga therapy) from the retreat. Attention to such detail is a vital component in the pursuit of health and excellence.
The retreat is situated on the edge of the mile long golden sands of Muizenberg beach, which is known to be one of the best beaches in the entire world to learn to surf. This is due to the gradual curve of the ocean floor which helps form the gentle peaks that roll in and from up to 300 meters, allowing maximum time to surf the face of the wave.
The bottom is free of rocks and there are no dangerous rip currents. During April to September it is the best season for surfing this coastline, with average conditions having of moderate light winds and two to three feet high surf, perfect for learning, and excellent for long-boarding to satisfy for those that have experience in this style.
Included in the price are a surf and beach trip to the Atlantic coast, a scenic walk up Table mountain, and a kayaking trip to see a colony of penguins in a marine reserve.
Cape Town Surf Yoga is set in a historical building right on the beach, at the iconic Surfer's Corner in Muizenberg, a coastal suburb which is 20 minutes away from the city centre. The area is wedged in between the evergreen slopes of the Table mountain belt, with a wide variety of plant and animal life and great hiking trails, and the temperate Southern Atlantic ocean. Several quaint seaside villages are within walking distance and offer many coffee shops, galleries, and points of interest. There is also a train service with regular departures to the city centre.
Included in the price of this retreat are daily brunches and five evening vegetarian meals. You will start each day with a different freshly-squeezed juice to set the tone for what the day has to offer. After the morning yoga class you will sit down to a delicious homemade brunch including fresh fruit salad, homemade jams, homemade bread, yogurt, muesli plus a hot dish of the day (eggs, pancakes, oats), and a choice of drinks including water, coffee, tea, and herbal tea.
For five evenings you will indulge in a three-course meal of freshly prepared vegetarian cuisine by the in-house chef. All produce is organically-grown and locally-sourced to provide meals that are bursting with flavor and wholesome goodness. For the sixth evening, you will go on a scenic tour of the neighboring fishing village for a sundowner and a meal at a fantastic local restaurant overlooking the harbor.
The restaurant meal and lunches are not included in the price.
You will be able to enjoy a massage or a beauty treatment at one of the local spas, for an extra cost.
Flights should be booked to arrive at Cape Town International Airport (CPT). Cape Town Surf Yoga will pick you up from the airport. The pick-up is included in the price.
