It always makes a difference when the owner is hands on to check that things are running smoothly. I received a warm welcome and was impressed by the hospitality of the staff and other guest, this is especially important if you are a solo traveler. Muizenberg itself is an awesome chilled-vibe town if you want to escape the uber trendy hustle and bustle of Cape Town. The surf and water is so inviting and safe if you are not used to the Cape ocean. Basically no rips, you can jump over broken waves, perfect for beginners. The Backpackers is situated with an ocean view of Surfer Corner 180 degrees plus from the balcony where everyone usually have a chat - so nice. I came down with the Metrorail train from Cape Town for R13.70 vs R350 for a shuttle/taxi. I also went to Simons Town and Kalkbay with the train. The veiws from the train is lovely. I would recommend this.

Coolest place to hang/meet people do amazing stuff with/surf is right in front of the backpackers. Other surf options within 20 minute drive in the most beautiful City in the world. Nature rules, energetic homely vibes with a slight twist of surf camp/Yoga namaste like... Shaka!

I have stayed at African soul surfer on numerous occasions and I am always greeted with friendly staff and nothing is to much to ask them. The location is amazing with the beach right in front of the place as well as local transport.

I traveled on my own to Cape Town and this was my first stop, Jamie and the whole team made my stay very comfortable and I enjoyed it so much that I ended up extending my trip here. Loved the activities!

Thank you for staying in your hostel ! I will come back soon ! :-) Staff members are very friendly and helpfully. :-)) Restaurants and Supermarket is nearby. You can cook your meal by yourself. Breakfast can be ordered and taste very well. Only one minute to very nice beach. With best regards from me.

The room had great view over the beach. There are no rooms with private bathrooms and all was outdated and not so clean. To get there you need to climb stairs which is really unhandy walking up with suitcases.

After staying at various backpackers in the area, African Soul Surfer is the place i would recommend first, to anyone who enjoys surfing, yoga, massage, mountain walks and good vibes. You'll want to keep going back again.

Friendly staff, perfect location, nice surf. The rooms are big, there is a nice balcony where you can spot the waves, a free coffee in the morning, clean bathrooms, surfboard / wetsuit hire, a perfect chill spot!

I just came back from living 2 months in African Soul Surfer and I'm almost depressed to not call it my home anymore. It's perfectly located on the beach side, only a few steps to the surf spot and close to everything that could be interesting in Muizenberg. It's definitely a surfers place, but during my time there were all different kinds of people that are surely enjoying their time. What I liked the most is that you can easily make contact to people due to the big self-catering kitchen, the big round table where you make eye-contact to people automatically, the pool table, and of course the daily activities organised by the volunteers. In the back there's nice lounge where it's easy to escape the people in the kitchen or to enjoy some private time. The staff is super friendly and I made friends for life for sure. For me, this is one of the places where I had the most fun in my life and I will come back for sure.

African Soul Surfer is a great place to stay. There is a chilled and positive vibe. There are plenty of places to eat on your doorstep if you don't feel like cooking, if you do, then there is a mini supermarket just behind the building. There is a train station 5 minutes away and it is a close drive to everything. The facilities are good and there is a beautiful view. Lovely staff, and great value for money. Would definitely recommend! If you do stay, would definitely recommend a surfing lesson with Doug, it is a MUST!

I would like to thank African Soul Surfers for an awesome stay. We booked a bit late but you were able to accommodate us. The stay was unbelievable and the view was breathtaking. It is beyond chilled if you are looking for that kinda vibe. I even decided after leaving that I should put surfing on my bucket list. Thank you so much for your warm welcome. We as a group would definitely recommend this place to anyone that enjoys the sea. Thank you again.

Stayed here for a week last month and it was hands down the best experience I have had at a backpackers anywhere in the world. You can't beat the beachfront location and can get you almost anywhere in Cape Town quick and cheap from the train station that's just a stones throw away. The accommodations (beds, bathrooms, and lounging areas) were all excellent as well. However it was the staff that made our experience here so great. They went above and beyond to make sure that we were satisfied not just with our experience at the backpackers, but our experience in Cape Town as a whole. I would recommend to anyone looking for an affordable and chill place to stay in Cape Town.
