Calima Surf offers accommodation in a quiet environment within a protected nature reserve and a hundred meters from the beach. Yoga helps you to maintain strength in the muscles and prepare your body before catching the waves. This perfect combination of yoga and surfing will surely make you feel refreshed!
During the surf camp, you will be staying at Calima Surf House. The surf house is located only 100 meters from the beach in the Natural Reserve of Famara with wonderful views of the island of La Graciosa. Calima Surf has created this surf house to make you feel at home even when you are with your other family, the surfers.
In the house, you will meet surf enthusiasts like yourself from all over the world sharing a 250-square meters house with all services and features you need to relax and enjoy your stay in the Canary Islands. The surf house is fully equipped, comfortable, clean, and safe. It is located in a quiet area and you can choose between private and shared rooms.
There are many surf spots where you must fight hard against the current, your arms must be strong for ducks (duck dive), and your breathing must be good to prepare if you fall off the wave. Keep your body prepared for the high demands of surfing by yoga practice. Yoga serves both the physical and mental aspect and is allied to surf that makes most professional surfers include it in their daily workout. In addition, Calima Surf provide flexibility that will improve your balance on the board and reduce the risk of injury.
Yoga and stretching can promote strength in the muscles through the postures or Asanas. It is an ancient discipline that can help surfers to improve their performance, ease anxiety in critical condition of large and heavy seas, improve breathing through Pranayama or breathing exercises. The courses are taught by yoga teacher who received Sivananda School in Ranikhet, India, as well as therapeutic yoga teacher and practitioner of Ashtanga yoga. The classes are tailored to surfing to find the best performance in surf sessions (90 minutes duration).
During the afternoon session (from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.) on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, you will do different healthy activities at the gym of Calima Surf or somewhere nearby (a space exclusively for the students). You will do exercises totally oriented to improve your surfing, as well as a photo analysis with correction of errors with the photos of all the group of that week, including yours!
Melina was born in Argentina on 28 October 1987 and raised in Lanzarote. She fell in love with surfing when she was 17 years old, and since then it has become her passion and her way of life. She loves to travel and discover new places to practice surf. She is a lifeguard and FCS surfing instructor.
Itziar comes from Donosti. She is officially qualified as a leisure and entertainment supervisor as well as as a lifeguard and bikeride guide. She is also the community manager and is responsible for marketing. Before discovering surfing at 26 years old, she played and coached basketball. But the warm sea and waves brought her to the Canary Islands. She is extroverted, dynamic, and great with children. The only thing she hates is having to say goodbye to the children after every camp.
Lanzarote, as a natural place, offers unique characteristics of Spain. A part of the great extensions of different lava typologies that you can find in the Timanfaya and Malpaìs de la Corona Natural Parks are fields of wind sands (el jable de Famara) marine, and coast ambients like no other. El Rìo, between La Graciosa and Lanzarote and the southwest beaches. Where a multitude of species and subspecies of flora and fauna co-exist and well adapted to these conditions and therefore really endemic. 17% of plants, 60% of nesting birds, 40% of insect, and 100% of reptiles are endemic to the island.
According to Storm-Rider-Guide 98, Lanzarote is the "European Hawaii", with its mystic and volcanic extensions and its great variety of waves, from the perfect classic waves to the typical isolated beaches with small waves perfect for beginners.
Lanzarote and other Canary islands constitute a crucial cross between Europe, Africa, and America. They are located 1000 kilometers away from peninsular Spain and 100 kilometers away from African coasts. North of Lanzarote has situated a hundred small island called archipelago Chinijo (small).
Lanzarote is by far the northernmost island of the Canaries. This means it is the most exposed to north, northeast, and northwest swells, which are the most common swells in the Canary Islands. Therefore, this island gets the best and most frequent waves. There are more than 30 high-quality surfing spots on Lanzarote. Some of them are:
Famara Beach is one of the most famous spot for surfing in Lanzarote. In Famara Beach, you will see dozens of different types of waves. It very much depends on the state of the sandbanks on the seabed and with every strong swell the low points tend to change. As well as El Codito, you can find el Molino, Los Bungalos, el Bunquer, el Palo, the kiters zone and el Papelillo. If you come to Famara beach, you come to a surfing paradise and tranquility.
Located in the center of the Natural Reserve of Archipelago Chinijo, this is a unique place with a special charm that you cannot miss. The beach has a length of approximately six miles of sand with different types of surf spots perfect for all surf levels and the waves are guaranteed because of the constants swells between north and west, sheltered by a cliff of 600 meters high and extraordinary views. Famara Beach has been recognized numerous times as one of the best beaches in Spain and its protected status make it remains virtually untouched.
During this retreat, you will be served with hot sandwiches, water, and fruits for your picnic lunches on the beach.
