São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro are the main gateways to Brazil. Flight time is eight hours from Miami to São Paulo or Rio de Janeiro, 10 hours from New York, just over 9 hours from Atlanta, 13 from Los Angeles and 16 from San Francisco.
From the US, flights are by American Airlines, Continental, Delta, United and the Brazilian flag carriers Varig and Tam link the US with Brazil. Depending on the city, flight time from Europe to São Paulo or Rio de Janeiro is just over 12 hours.
Air France, Alitalia, British Airways, Iberia, KLM, Lufthansa, Swiss, Tam, Tap and Varig all offer scheduled services between Europe and Brazil. This means that travellers have a daily choice of airlines linking the two continents. From the UK, the most direct flights to Brazil are those operated by British Airways and Varig. Both offer daily services to São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro from London Heathrow (LHR).
