"Our teenage son and some of his friends wanted to learn to surf this summer. We visited a few surf shops in Hossegor and Seignosse and the coach at Boardingmania, Patrick Hall, is by far and away, the best. Patrick is very different from many of the surf coaches in the area. He is from the UK and his wife is French - he speaks both French and English. He is a bit older, in his 30s I think, a family guy with two kids so you have the sense that he is keeping a good eye on all the students. His clients range in age, and he often coaches families. Group sessions are 2 hours. His prices are reasonable and he has a wide stock of surf boards for rent, for those who want this and not the lessons. "

"Simply, the place to rent! The prices are good and the boards are even better. All of them pretty new, almost all the sizes, some of them already have GoPro mounts - not that that's important, but hey, why not :) I've been here almost 10 years now and rented boards all over the place. If you stay in Seignosse or nearby - I strongly recommend renting there. And if you are a beginner also book a lesson with Patrick. He's just a cool guy and you'll have fun learning from him :) "

"By pure chance, we stumbled across Boarding Mania and I can only say Im glad we did! Patrick is a great surf teacher, very enthusiastic, fun and fantastic quality teaching. His experience and knowledge, not only about surfing but also the sea, waves, tides safety were key. Qualiy equipment is available, too. He obviously really enjoys teaching and shows, lessons were always fun even with small tiny waves. Patrick speaks fluent French, so he can adapt to the nationalities of his students. One day, we had a lesson in French, the next in English. We also arrived in Seignosse without accommodation and Mireille was lovely to give us great tips to help us find a rental apartment; in 10 minutes, we had found one! Unfortunately, we could only stay 3 days, wished it could have been an entire week. I will definitely go to Boarding Mania again and next time I will certainly do their private surf camp package."

"We had a 6-day surfing course with Patrick Hall at Boarding Mania. He always picked the right spot and pointed us to our perfect waves. Great care taker, beginning with a warm up to be prepared for the stunning waves, sets clear targets for each participant to achieve during the lesson, gives very helpful advice during the lessons, pointed out potential dangers and always took care, that all are well. Good sense of humor, it's just fun to get trained by him."

"I and 2 other friends just came back from our surfing holiday. We spent the first 5 days in Seignosse, to learn to surf with Boarding Mania (5 days, 2 hours per day). Patrick and his wife are running a small and personal surfing school, and they do an excellent job. Great value for money, even more when compared to the other big surf schools. He pays great attention to the group, and also when the conditions are less good, he really makes the best of it and motivates the group. Since the experience was so good, we also hired a few longboards, which was great fun and really useful in Capbreton and Hossegor (where we slept)."

"We have had surfing lessons with Patrick at Boarding Mania before. We returned this year to stay in one of the beautiful apartments that Boarding Mania let as part of their surf packages and have another set of surf lessons. The apartment was lovely and you really couldn't have got any closer to the beach, we had the use of bikes and Seignosse is really well set up for cycling, so we didn't need the car at all. The surf lessons were ever of a really high standard, Patrick is an excellent instructor and manages to tailor the lesson to all in the group whilst making sure that everyone is having fun. I cannot recommend this surf school enough having had surf lessons from several schools. Boarding Mania really goes the extra mile and I'm sure we'll be back again in the future."

  • Review by a traveler from Callander, UK

"We had a brilliant family holiday with our 2 young children staying in Patrick's ski apartment. Not being ones for the beach and surfing, the flat in the heart of the hills in summer proved the perfect base for us. Gorgeous area, lots of things to do for the whole family particularly my husband who is a keen road cyclist and is itching to go back and cycle more of those steep cols from the Tour de France (one of the stages of which I believe ended in front of the apartment last year). Very easy to rent bikes locally. Even had a day trip to Spain which was fun. Great pre-trip advice from Patrick regarding airports and the need to hire a car if staying up at the ski resort. Loads of nice little cafes, restaurants and an excellent tourist information centre in Saint Lary. Pla d'adet quiet as a ski resort in summer, but this suited us and still had cable car and mountain-bikers. Flat itself is clean, well-equipped and well laid-out with beautiful views and very good value. All in all, an absolutely brilliant spot for a family holiday."

"My friend and I stayed in Seignosse for a week and it was just awesome! Patrick is a great surf instructor. We learned a lot - not only about how to "pop up" on a surfboard, but also how to behave in the ocean, about different types of waves, tides, currents, etc. The apartment is nicely furnished and well-equipped, bikes are available for free. Even though it was very quiet in Seignosse (we were there in April), we connected to locals easily. Friendly people, friendly atmosphere. It is highly recommendable!"

"I've stayed at Le Penon with with Boarding Mania each summer in the past 3 years. The apartment is perfectly located around a huge complex full of bars, restaurants and shops, not to mention the world-class waves on your door step. You can hire bikes with Patrick and cycle down to Hossegor to enjoy the night life of the town and waves at Le Grav. The owner, Patrick, is a top guy and will make your stay very comfortable and enjoyable. An awesome trip all round!"

"We surfed with my wife and friends with Patrick on January 2, 3, 4, 2015. Patrick is a great teacher and made surfing super fun and brought us to the greatest spots of the region! He also has a huge selection of surfboards for rent and all of them are almost as new as the wetsuits! Patrick explained a lot of ocean reading stuff and helped with learning and progressing in surf moves!"

"We booked both surf lessons and accommodations in Seignosse with Boarding Mania. Our apartment was well appointed and cozy, located right off the beach. We were very impressed with the cost which included the week apartment rental, 5 surf lessons and all equipment rentals including bikes to get around the area. The surf lessons were awesome, Patrick did a great job explaining the local breaks and conditions as well as reading his students abilities and giving everyone feedback. As other reviewers have commented, he is also one of the most patient teachers I have ever met and you can tell he takes pride in seeing his students improve and helping them get the most out of their lessons. On top of that, you also get loads of local recommendations from Patrick on restaurants and other activities in the area. I would highly recommend Boarding Mania to anyone looking to surf and stay in Seignosse. Can't wait to go back!"
