Ever wanted to wake up in Sri Lanka and practice yoga in the jungle, enjoy a fresh king coconut before an amazing local breakfast, then head down to Weligama Bay and challenge yourself with a surf lesson? Surf lessons are followed by lunch on the beach then an afternoon in the water putting to practice what you have learned, or relaxing free time to do as you please. In the evening, you will head back to the jungle villa for a chill sunset Yin yoga class, followed by an amazing traditional vegetarian evening meal, and the chance to share stories with new friends about your great day! On one of your excursions, you will spend the day in Udawalawe National Park where you can view wild elephants, many birds, crocodiles, buffalo, mongoose, and many other creatures.
The retreat also includes free time for exploring more of South Sri Lanka. You could have a cultural afternoon at the local Buddhist temple followed by a visit to the historic Galle Fort! Or just chill on the beach. On this retreat, you'll have the opportunity to learn from two different yoga teachers, Carrie and Evelin, teaching different styles of yoga in the morning and the evening to give you a well-rounded experience! You'll also get to be part of some special meditation sessions and a Full Moon ceremony! Please note the only things not included in this exclusive offer are airport transfers and lunches as you will be away from the villa for these. All yoga, surf, equipment, accommodation, breakfasts, and evening meals are included.
As part of the mission of Bigger Life Adventures, this retreat gives back 10% of all participation fees to a local nonprofit organization. With this retreat, we are donating to WECare Worldwide, a veterinary nonprofit devoted to serving Sri Lanka's street dogs.
While at the retreat, you will stay at the Bandara Watte colonial-era villa in the jungle. This secluded and historic home is surrounded by six acres of gardens and surrounded by lush rainforest. Located near a small village outside of Weligama, Sri Lanka, the villa is a five-minute tuk-tuk ride to the beach, ten minutes to Mirissa Beach, and twenty minutes along the beautiful coastal road to Galle. The house has great historical importance locally, and to reach it you must travel down a narrow secluded lane which leads only to the river's edge.
The lane begins at a Banyan Tree made famous by the poet Gajaman Nona, and there are various small 'boutiques' which sell basic daily provisions and local food. There is also a vibrant village vegetable market every Wednesday and Saturday which is a lovely 10-minute scenic walk from the villa. Rooms and bathrooms are shared but spacious!
This retreat will take place in Weligama, Sri Lanka. Weligama is a small town on the Southern Coast of Sri Lanka, home to a chilled-out vibe and the perfect easy waves for newbie surfers! For more experienced surfers, there are bigger waves just minutes away at other breaks.
All plant-based, healthy, home-cooked Sri Lankan food will be served for breakfasts and dinners. Lunch will be on your own, but there are plenty of delicious, local Sri Lankan options!
