Ecuador Yoga Retreat

Join this course to learn how to integrate the concepts of balance, breath, and focus and bring surf to a whole new level of understanding. Yoga is a meditative practice in motion, through which people aspire to perform optimally by engaging the parasympathetic nervous system to enhance the range of motion, stretch muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Learn how to take the pranayama practice off the mat and combine it with surf on the water and into your everyday life challenges.

Betty Surf and Yoga Retreat Ecuador Program

The Wave Guided Empowerment™ Course is an awesome fusion of surf & yoga teaching students how to bring yoga into the water and into daily living through a variety of unique classes including the Surf Balance Class featuring slackline yoga and balance board yoga. Unique equipment and methodology along with bilingual instruction creates a first world experience without losing a single beat of the authentic rhythm of Ecuador. Empower your life and challenge your potential learning how to surf in Ecuador this year!

Every surf class is composed of two distinct exercises that you will have opportunity to practice on the beach first and then take the practice in to the water. You will work through new yoga balance poses for surfing as you enhance your experience surfing and flowing through a series of yoga balance exercises while riding your board. The program is specially designed to meet your experience level and to create mindful presence through the surf session.

Lesson one

Learn to catch a wave, find the soul of the surfboard, and enjoy a deep stretch yoga for surfing to relax the mind and release negativity.

Lesson two

Perfect the pop up and alignment on the board and one balance challenge to learn how to use drishti focus and pranayama breath to still the mind and find balance. Yoga session utilizing slackline yoga, Aerial yoga, and Indo balance boards.

Lesson three

Paddling and turning on the board and yoga surf recovery with guided relaxation to release three days of muscle soreness. Begin taking your practice of pranayama and drishti to a deeper level.

Surf and yoga

Surf and yoga is a practice that integrates the concepts of balance, breath, and focus to bring surfing to a whole new level of understanding. Learn how to utilize pranayama and drishti to engage the parasympathetic nervous system optimizing your potential in challenge situations such as learning to surf. Use of slackline yoga, Indo balance boards, and aerial balance stations.

Vinyasa stretch and flow

A gentle Vinyasa practice featuring a short Yin warming of energy, followed by a brief Vinyasa flow from which you step into your asanas closing with a relaxing stretch.


Betty Surf and Yoga is located on the northwestern coast of Ecuador, in a small town named Canoa, a small fishing village with a modest tourism industry and nearby tropical jungle that features an incredibly diverse array of plants and wildlife. The Manabi province is host to several volunteer organizations and forestry projects including reserves and organic farms.

Canoa also has an ideal beach break for folks learning to surf with warm tropical water to surf in, no rocks, no reef, no riptides, no sharks, and 15 miles of abandoned beach break which means low competition for waves. This explains the friendly locals' attitude towards foreign surfers and the willingness to share waves with a spirit of abundance.

How to get there

Arrival by airplane

The closest international airports to Canoa are the José Joaquín de Olmedo International Airport (GYE) and the Mariscal Sucre International Airport (UIO). You can take a flight of 45 minutes from Mariscal Sucre International Airport (UIO) to Eloy Alfano National Airport (MEC).

Arrival by bus

From the Quitumbe south terminal, which is 30 minutes away from Mariscal Sucre International Airport (UIO), you may take a direct bus to Canoa. Alternatively from the Reina del Camino bus office located five minutes away you may take an executive bus direct to Bahia which leaves every day at noon, then you may hire a cab for approximately 8 USD to get to Canoa. You may also choose to get on the

Tosagua bus which stops at the terminal about every 20 minutes and this will take you directly from Bahia to Canoa.You may take a direct bus from the Jos Joaqun de Olmedo International Airport (GYE) bus terminal in Guayaquil to Bahia and then hire a cab for approximately 8 USD to get to Canoa. The cabs know when the buses show up so there are always cabs available when you arrive in Bahia

  • A reservation requires a deposit of 50% of the total price.
  • The deposit is non-refundable, if the booking is cancelled.
  • The rest of the payment should be paid on arrival.
