The North Male Atoll contains well known breaks such as Lohis, Cokes, Chickens, Sultans, Jailbreaks, Honkys and Ninjas. In Beach Heaven Maldives, you can easily go to these surf spots because it's just a few minutes away. Come and learn how to surf in the beautiful Huraa Island in Maldives!
Beach Heaven Maldives offers seven rooms on a local island Huraa in the beautiful Maldives. You can choose the best option for you either stay in a double or triple room. The guesthouse is located just a few steps away from the warm Indian ocean. Free Wi-Fi is available in all areas, including all rooms and on the relaxing beach just next to the guesthouse.
Staying in the guesthouse will give you the opportunity to discover the genuine side of the Maldives, living with local people and enjoying their unlimited kindness. The accommodation is simple, the way that the Maldives is, far away from the luxury world of resorts, yet surrounded with same beautiful waters. The rooms are all non-smoking and include air conditioning, extra fan, towels, linens, Wi-Fi, private bathroom, and free coffee, tea, and water.
During this package in and around Huraa island, Maldives, you will have one three-hour of surf lesson each day. You will be surfing in some of the best spots in the Maldives at Sultans, Jailbreaks, Honkys, or Ninjas.
Best breaks are from March to mid October during the SW Monsoon with June – August being the peak season. The North Male Atoll offers a mix of rights and lefts featuring some long point breaks as well as some hollower reefs. Huraa island is situated in the Kaafu Atoll of Maldives (North Malè Atoll).
Ninjas is best for longboarders and beginners. It is righthander that breaks slower and with less shape than any of the surrounding waves. It even closes out when it gets over shoulder high, so anything four feet and under is perfect. It is best with a west to the northwest wind and a moderate south swell.
Sultans location next to Honkey’s puts the uninhabited island of Thamburudhoo, which they both break off of, in the running for the most perfect island in the world. Sultans righthander on one side and Honkey’s lefthander on the other makes it a double threat that is hard to beat, especially when you consider that if Honkey’s is onshore, Sultans is offshore.
This is that location you have been dreaming about. It always has something to surf. Always rideable, the waves here are typically in the 4 to 6 feet range, but reach ideal form at about eight feet. Best in March to October surf season, especially June, July, and August.
Taking its name from the earliest and most frequent visitor(s), the Honky’s lefthander wonderfully complements Sultans (its righthanded sister wave), while tending to outshine its sibling on a regular basis. A long, wrapping, left, Honky’s competes for the best wave in North Male Atoll when all conditions are met.
The takeoff is about 100 yards south of Sultans along the same reef, although this wave marries the reef’s semi-circular shape as it breaks and wraps around almost 90 degrees by the time you pull out. The ride can get well over 100 yards long, building in size as it moves inside.
The inside section, known as the Ledge or Fred’s Ledge, jacks up almost two feet higher than the initial peak, often surprising its riders and creating unforgettable barrels - nothing quite like a last-second boost on your way into the tube.
Best on the low tide (unless the swell is huge), Honky’s reaches perfection in the head high to double overhead range most common during the March to October season. Although it reacts best to straight south swells and north to northeast winds, Honky’s is the only wave that works on east-northeast (ENE) wind - one of those potentially session-saving details that are always important to commit to memory.
One of Honkey’s only downsides is the stubborn current that tends to plague the uninhabited island of Thamburudhoo, impacting both Honky’s and Sultans. This is a favorite destination for most of the surf charters, but be sure to squeeze paddling training into your pre-trip plans.
Located in North Male Atoll, this is an exposed reef break with consistent surf throughout each swell with the best waves during spring and into late summer. Expect the largest waves at Jailbreaks during June, July, and August when conditions are consistently offshore and the dominant swell direction is south-southeast (SSE).
During spring and summer, you can expect waves in the waist-high to a couple of feet overhead range (two to eight feet), though late summer swells typically bring larger surf. The reef at Jailbreaks offers up a variety of waves depending on where you set your takeoff point, ranging from open and mellow walls you can hack and slash your way down to hollow barrels with a respectable lip.
The popular takeoff spot is steep and fast but sets you up for the perfect right. Though the wave stays good all day long here, the best waves will be had on a rising tide with a six to eight-foot swell.
This surf camp is located in Huraa Island, Maldives. Huraa, in Kaafu Atoll, is one of the easiest islands to reach. It is only 20 kilometers away from Ibrahim Nasir International Airport (MLE) in Male and it is one of the best places to discover the genuine side of Maldives.
Popular destination for surfers in the North Male Atoll eastern reef because it provides consistent waves which never closeout. Small boats or ‘dhonis’ are used to transport surfers into offshore position at the rear of the break. This wave is the right-hand companion to Honkys (left).
This wave is the left companion of the same reef as Sultans (right). Two sections, the outside and the inside, usually link up. The beach and the entire Thanburudhoo island are government property. When the waves get up, a lot of current running off the point can be on certain swell directions. A quality wave!
Ninjas is located near Kanifinolhu (Club Med Kani Resort island) on the eastern reef of the North Male Atoll. The moderate swell and length of the ride are the main highlights, making it a good right-hand longboard wave.
This is perhaps the Maldives broadest wave field, with a bunch of different takeoff spots scattered along the flat reef, some linking up into 100-yard-plus rides, others into shorter tube sections. As it gets bigger, the sections can disappear and it becomes one super long, super fast right point, with three or four barrels per wave possible. The minor delinquent prison and a drug rehabilitation center in Himmafushi island give the name.
Named after the Coca-Cola factory on the island, Cokes is located on the eastern reef of Thulusdhoo island. A short but intense right-hander and a big wave tube spot, this wave has a steep, barreling takeoff, and a very shallow but intense inside section that opens up.
Best on mid to high tide, however, it can be surfed at low tide on big swells. Ideal on a straight south swell and can be surfed in winds from any direction west to north Beautiful view of palm-fringed beaches from the surf zone.
Best on the higher tide, Chickens if a very fast left with sections that can get hollow on a south swell. Get its name from a former chickens farm on Viligili island. Locals are super friendly and you will meet them mostly on Fridays (holiday). It’s an amazing ride!
