It’s that time of year where the sea is warming up ready for summer, and the wetsuits boots are coming off. So while the beaches are quiet and the swells are frequent, come and enjoy Newquay at its best this May. Whether you are looking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life or ready to delve into a new adventure, there is nothing better than surfing in crystal clear, Cornish waters. If you are a salty sea dog looking to improve your surfing or new to squeezing into a wetsuit, Base Surf Lodge's smiles and coaching skills will have you making the most of your time in the water. Perfect for groups and individuals, the lodge boasts comfortable dorm-style accommodation in private rooms, with crisp cotton linen supplied. The tropical garden provides space to catch some sun, read a book or enjoy breakfast in the fresh air. Base Surf Lodge has a changing room and showers for convenience and a locked cupboard for clothes and valuables. All lessons Include two hours tuition, starts once down on the beach, therefore giving you plenty of time to learn, practice, and progress your surfing.
Arrive at Base Surf Lodge on the Friday of Bank Holiday and be welcomed by your hosts Rob and Lou.
On Saturday morning, you will all have breakfast together and organize three surf lessons for the upcoming weekend. These will be decided by where and when the best conditions will be to improve your surfing.
On the Saturday afternoon / evening, you will be having a barbecue (if the weather permits) at the lodge that giving you time to reflect on the days' lessons and make plans for the lesson on Sunday.
On Sunday morning, you will have breakfast together and then head out for a walk to the beach. Everyone can come along on the surf check and you can discuss how to identify the best places to surf at a beach. On this day, you will complete the lessons for the weekend, and in the final evening, you will host some BYOB drinks at the lodge or head down to the beach for the sunset to round off the weekend.
Base Surf Lodge is a long established surf lodge is situated overlooking Fistral Beach, the UK’s finest surf break. With ocean views and all the amenities of town just around the corner, you could not ask for a better location in Newquay. Beach barbecues, coastal walks, fresh local food and live music events are just a few of the many attractions available on the doorstep. Walkers and cyclists are more than welcome here at Base Surf Lodge. There are ideally situated just a short walk through Newquay Golf Course from the South West Coast Path. They have a secure garden for anybody wanting to leave their bike during their stay.
There is a regular train service from all parts of the country to Bodmin Parkway Station. From there it takes half an hour by car and taxis can be arranged for your arrival. There are connections to Newquay which just require a change at Par. Once at Newquay train station, Base Surf Lodge is only a 15-minute walk away. There is also a taxi rank at the station, or for peace of mind taxis can be prearranged.
