AST La Barra made my trip so easy, the staff works around the clock, preparing meals, ensuring guests are comfortable; rooms and resort are spotless. Beautiful meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner; made fresh with power-packed, clean, health food. There’s a full bar, and always someone to drink with. Most importantly, the resort overlooks the best surf in Miramar; one of my new favorite spots in Nicaragua. Alonso, David, Luis, Salvador, Jose, Elena, and all the ladies in the kitchen (the food is AMAZING) made the entire stay lovely; they put their hearts into this place. You will be set with AST La Barra. Get out there, surf, and have fun! Thank you guys, can’t wait to come back!

I just got back from my 2nd trip to La Barra in Miramar, Nicaragua. I really can’t say enough good things about this place and the people that run it (not to mention the waves). We had our driver waiting at the airport when we arrived and a smooth trip through Managua to reach the camp. At the camp, the people were friendly, food was good, and the beer cold. The guys running the camp go out of their way to make sure you’re entertained and typically paddle out next to you when you surf. We had a boat trip almost everyday to various waves (we scored some of the better surf I’ve ever had at Puerto Sandino) and mixed in some fishing. We hit 6 different breaks this trip that ranged from good to epic in wave quality. Best part was there were never more than 10 people in the water at any given spot and often just me and a buddy.
Besides the bar at La Barra, there’s another cool little bar down the street (Bar Ocho) that’s worth checking out that has cheap beer and good food. I’d also recommend doing a tour of the river late in the afternoon or early morning

I can't say enough good things about AST La Barra. The Crew, Led by Alonso provided not only great service, but camaraderie and made me feel like family. Airport transfer was easy and quick. There are multiple breaks to choose from around the hotel and Alonso and the others gave recommendations depending on the tides and swell so that we always had good waves. The daily boat service was so much fun and took us out to the best waves I've ever surfed. The hotel grounds were always clean and the food was home cooked deliciousness. La Barra is so much more than a hotel experience and I can't wait to come back!
So many good things to say about our trip! Driver was waiting for us on arrival into Managua. Transfer was easy and without delay despite concerns about recent protests against the government. We encountered no problems and the area around La Barra was as quiet as could be. There’s a bunch of great and varied waves around the camp and Alonso, Luis and Jerson made sure we were on the best waves every day. The property is awesome and perfect for relaxing. Delicious food cooked fresh by the kitchen every meal. Staff were attentive and friendly, provided great service and kept the place spotlessly clean. Just a great experience all around that exceeded our expectations. Can’t wait to come back!
IAST La Barra delivered as always! It was my third time staying there and it just keeps getting better. We got to surf all 6 major breaks in the area multiple times. Alonso, Luis and staff crushed it. Better service than any restaurant or hotel anywhere! I was a little nervous about the political situation before the trip this year but we were in and out of Managua in 20 minutes and the tiny town of Miramar seemed to be largely unaffected. Can't wait to get back.
