This combo islands executive package has been designed for surfers that want to experience the Galápagos Islands on a deeper surfing and nature level, allowing them to surf not only San Cristobal Island but if the swell factor conspires, you will also surf on Santa Cruz, Floreana, and Baltra Islands. This is an awesome and affordable surf trip with first class service staying not only on one island, but two. Join and let your imagination run free in this awesome trip with Amangala Surf!
For this trip, the hotel used as your bases will be Sunset Suites Hotel in San Cristóbal Island and Angermeyer Waterfront Inn in Santa Cruz Island. Both accommodations are waterfront. Your stay will be divided into four nights at Sunset Suites Hotel and three nights at the Angermeyer Waterfront Inn.
This trip will be performed on a private level offering first class service. During this trip, a private speedboat will be used to transfer you and your party from one island to the other. Also, this trip features the charter of a 38-feet walk around speedboat that has facilities of bathroom, cover, sundeck, deckhand, naturalist guide, experienced skipper, lunch, and drinks.
This boat can be used once during the week in order to explore the entire north coast of San Cristóbal, the untouched south-west coast of Santa Cruz Island, the west coast of Baltra Island, and the pristine west coast of Floreana Island (this decision will be made three days upon arrival considering the swell factor). This will be a full day trip.
Two or three surf sessions will be achieved each day. You will be getting to the surf spots by one of Amangala Surf's smaller speedboats or by land vehicle, depending on the area. This trip will allow you not only to surf on several islands but also allow all nature lovers to enjoy this magnificent national park. In addition, several activities can be added to your surfing trip while you are visiting Amangala Surf.
Upon arrival in San Cristóbal Island, Amangala Surf's staff will be waiting for you at the gate in order to transfer you and your party to the Sunset Suites Hotel. This won't take more than 15 minutes. After a quick check-in, your assigned guide will perform a detailed briefing regarding the rules to follow while at the national park. Of course, info regarding your surfing plan for the entire week will also be provided.
Two or three sessions will be achieved each day of the week and you will be getting to the surf breaks in one of Amangala Surf's speedboats or land vehicles if needed, depending on the area. As this will be a multi islands visit, on the fifth day after breakfast, a transfer from San Cristóbal Island towards Santa Cruz Island will be performed on board a private speedboat (all regulations / certifications such as EPIR, radar, life jackets, GPS, etc. are updated).
The check-in at the hotel Angermeyer will be done at around 10:30, allowing you to surf at least once on this day. In order to secure an incredible surf experience on the Galápagos, Amangala Surf has added one surf charter for exploration that can be used either to check the north coast of San Cristóbal Island or to explore the south-west coast of Santa Cruz Island.
The other options (if the swell conspires) are to use the same boat to check the west coat of Baltra Island or the west coast of Floreana Island. This itinerary will be designed three days before your arrival by taking deep consideration on the wind, tides, and swell directions. The departure airport will be on the Baltra Island. The flights from this island do depart before 11:30 towards mainland Ecuador. If the nearby breaks are working, a quick surf session or a hike / snorkel can be performed.
While not all islands in the Galápagos offer world class surf, the best islands with shallow reefs and exposed breaks are San Cristóbal, Santa Cruz, Isabela, Baltra, and Floreana Islands. Surfing operations are based in San Cristóbal where 20 plus breaks can be found. However, Amangala Surf does offer surf trips to other islands, allowing you to experience more of the Galápagos Islands and its unique biodiversity and beauty. Please send an Amangala Surf an inquiry for more information.
The main playground, San Cristóbal Island, offers world-class surf from the easy walls at Cannons to the more challenging Loberia A-frames with top to bottom barrels. Othe spots that can generate epic surf are Carola, a right-hander freight train with 150 plus yards of power; Tongo reef, a perfect left-hander with rides over 200 yards; Outer reef, a challenging outside reef for experts; Manglesito, a fast and intense left with long rides; Manglesito reef, a perfect A-frame with square barrels; and Craters, a left-hander that offers turquoise-colored barrels. There are several other breaks, that with the right tides and winds, can surprise you.
Unlike conventional wisdom, the Galápagos Islands get consistent surf year round due to its exposed location which is 600 nautical miles of the coast of Ecuador in South America. From November through March, the islands receive NW swells (the same swells that hit Hawaii will hit the Galápagos about six days later with a clear decrease in size). From March through November, the Galápagos receives S and SW swells (the same swells that hit Fiji and Tahiti will hit three to four days later).
There is a rideable surf every day in the Galápagos, so getting skunked is a remote possibility. The waves range from three to four feet up to 10 to 12 feet at more exposed breaks. Depending on your experience level, Amangala Surf recommends bringing a couple of boards, including a shortboard, something but bigger, and one gun in the seven-foot range for a solid swell that may occur during your stay. Amangala Surf also has plenty of high-quality boards to rent including longboards and boards handcrafted by one of the best shapers in Ecuador.
Please send Amangala Surf an inquiry if you are interested in having a custom board ready for you upon your arrival. They are high-quality and attractively priced, allowing you to avoid board bag airline fees. Once your surf trip is over, you can take it with you or Amangala Surf can buy it from you to use in their local surf programs or for their rental fleet. The Galápagos has only one basic surf shop. Amangala Surf recommends you bring all the necessary surf equipment, but Amangala Surf has basic gear here as well such (wax, extra leashes, fin keys, and ding repair kits).
Amangala Surf caters to everyone: families, non-surfers, surfers, water lovers, nature lovers, adventurers, and pros. Their itineraries are built for you to play hard with as many surf sessions and activities as you can handle. Amangala Surf does this because this is a once in a lifetime experience and there are so many things to do while you are with them. While Amangala Surf offers a unique surf charter experience, most of their clients will have land-based experiences as well.
Land-based experiences, in Amangala Surf's humble opinion, provide the most value and the only way to truly experience the Galápagos Islands is through its surf and natural wonders in a short period of time. Amangala Surf can also cater to groups that have non-surfers or new or intermediate surfers in the group. Amangala Surf has had plenty of clients surfing while their children enjoy a snorkel session close by or build sand castles with sea lions and the guides.
You will enjoy one tour to the highlands for giant land tortoises spotting in their natural habitat, underground lava tunnels, and a visit to the escalesia (Galápagos endemic trees) forest.
The Galápagos Islands are well known for having inspired Charles Darwin's "Theory of Evolution" as he saw animals that found their way to, and adapted to, the beautiful but harsh environment of the islands over the course of thousands of years. The Galápagos Islands are home to some of the most unique land animals on earth including the Galápagos tortoise, Galápagos penguin, marine iguana, and flightless cormorant.
The Galápagos and its protected marine reserve are a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the second largest marine reserve after the Great Barrier Reef. The northern islands (Darwin and Wolf) of the Galápagos are also home to the highest abundance of sharks in the world. The Galápagos is located where three different currents converge and the waters are rich in marine diversity like sea turtles, sea lions, tropical fish, manta rays, and sharks.
No place on earth is able to provide such diversity of land and sea animals. On your trip, you may be prepared to surf and swim with all sorts of animals including endemic animals only found in the Galápagos. While there are simple rules on how to interact with animals like to not touch them, you will be amazed at how friendly and non-threatening they are towards you. These interactions are what make the Galápagos such an amazing place to experience.
You will be served buffet breakfasts during this surf trip. Lunch, dinner, and drinks are not included, but they are available in the town. The restaurants are only eight minutes away.
Please book your flight to San Cristóbal Airport (SCY). Transfer from and to this airport is included. Amangala Surf will pick you up from the airport.
There are plenty of flights coming from the USA and international cities to Quito and Guayaquil. From these two cities, there are direct flights to Seymour Airport (GPS) on Baltra Island and San Cristóbal Airport (SCY) on San Cristóbal Island. Where you fly into depends on your itinerary, but most of Amangala Surf's trips start in San Cristóbal.
From the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) or San Francisco International Airport (SFO), it will require two stops to get to the Galápagos and only one stop in Guayaquil from John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK). A red-eye flight won't require a hotel stay on the first night, but on your way home, you may need to stay the night in Quito or Guayaquil. They are both great cities and Amangala Surf has a number of hotel recommendations for you. Amangala Surf will make a pick up from either airport on your arrival and departure easy and will try to get you a quick session when you arrive and before you leave.
