You heard that Portugal is good for surfing? You heard right! But Portugal has many different places to go. It has more than 800 kilometers of coastline, so deciding where to go surfing in Portugal can be difficult. What you should be looking for is a place with guaranteed surfing the time of the year you can go. This is what surfer call surf consistency. Some places in Portugal are world-class in October, but can be flat or with no waves many days in the summers, so if you choose to go there in summer months chances are you are getting some days without waves.
The west Algarve coastline that goes between Aljezur and Sagres is blessed with very consistent surf, or in other words, surf is possible almost every day of the year even in August, when the rest of Portugal and the northern coast of Spain is flat as a pancake many days. On top of that the white or broken waves are very powerful, and give ideal conditions for beginners who try surfing for the first time.
Tent, bungalow, or wooden house are available. Guests get daily breakfast when staying at tent, bungalow, or wooden house. Surfhouse is also available. Guests will get daily breakfast and 1 barbecue when staying at the surfhouse.
The day starts at 9 a.m with a wholesome breakfast that will leave you full of energy for you surfing day: cheese and ham, bread, cereals, fresh fruits, tea, and coffee. After breakfast, around 10.30 a.m Amado team will drive you to your surf school at Amado beach.
Once in your surf school, Amado team will give you board and wetsuit for the day. You will be grouped to similar surfing level. Case surfing conditions are poor in Amado, the team will take you elsewhere, there is always the right beach for the day!
After the morning surfing session, you'll have a one hour break and then the afternoon session. In all you will have three hours of surfing lessons per day. After the surf, we stay a little longer on the beach just to enjoy the sunset. At around 6.30 or 7 pm we will drive you back to the camp.
Your evening dining options: Prepare your own food in a fully equipped kitchen, or ask Amado Surfcamp resident chef to prepare you a barbecue, or even ask them to drive you to a local restaurant. Amado Surfcamp can drive you to the Lidl in Vila do Bispo so that you buy food at cheap prices.
Once in the west Algarve, go to Carrapateira, the surf capital of the west Algarve at the heart of the Costa Vicentina natural park. Thats where the Amado surf camp and surf school are based. Carrapateira has two fantastic beaches with surf. The best beach for learning to surf in Portugal is Praia do Amado. The Amado surf camp has a surf camp about 2 kilometres from Carrapateira in a natural setting with tents and bungalows.
Carrapateira still retains its fishermen town roots, just drop by the Carrapateira club and you will meet them before and/or after fishing. So the neighboring restaurants are full of fished fish. Its so tasty, eating a fish that was alive a few hours before in the Atlantic before turning up cooked in your table.
