Fantastically located in the heart of the Indian Ocean, the Maldives benefit from full exposure to southern swells, which translates into epic surfing conditions on the outer reefs of remote little islands, some of them uninhabited still.
For years, women have strived to be included in big wave competitions, while organizers argued that heavy waves like the notorious Mavericks or Jaws are just too dangerous for chicks. It’s a man’s world, but there are some ladies out there that are proving themselves fit to take over the stage and kick some ass!
The world is a dangerous place, but it is also beautiful, filled with stunning views, awesome people, great food, rad barrels, gorgeous beaches and many more wonderful things. Unfortunately, traveling as a woman presents more risks than traveling as a man. Even though women from all over the world are finally beginning to make their voice heard, we still have a long way to reaching true gender equality.
