Find and compare 19+ surf camps in Santa Teresa, Costa Rica

Ranked top 10 best beaches in the world, Santa Teresa in Costa Rica is the perfect destination for a surf camp with great waves for beginners and advanced surfers. Santa Teresa has stunning coastlines, prime wave conditions, and a consistent swell. The village is beginning to open up to surfers, offering great waves and a wonderful, relaxed atmosphere.

What's the best time to go surfing in Santa Teresa?

The major swell season and the best time to surf in Santa Teresa is from April to October with S-SW swells. Santa Teresa is located on the western coast of the Nicoya Peninsula and has quickly become a mainstream spot with a white sand beach break, pointbreaks, and consistent waves at lower tides. Because of this good location, there’s an ocean breeze keeping surfers cool the entire year. The months November to Mid-April are the warm and sunny months of the year. Although there’s always humidity in Costa Rica, these are the driest months, with clear blue skies, cool nights, lush greenery, and a cool offshore wind.

From the end of April to August, you can expect some more rain showers, in the evenings and nights mostly. With major swell, fewer crowds, and lower prices, this is an ideal time to explore this region on a lower budget and surf at the same time. The rainiest months of the year are September and October, also referred to as the Green Season, when the jungle is thankfully receiving its much-needed water. Because of its high water temperature year-round (26-28 C), there’s no need for a wetsuit and you can wear bikinis or boardshorts anytime!

What's Santa Teresa like after surfing?

The nightlife around Santa Teresa is pretty chill and authentic, with beach bars for sunset drinks and Thursday reggae parties at La Lora Amarilla. Well-known among surfers is the Vista de Olas pool party and the hosted deep house parties around. Being located along the coast, you’ll find most restaurants near the beach. With a huge variety of international and local cuisine, there’s plenty of local produce from the jungles around to taste. A must-try when you are in Santa Teresa is the Argentinian empanadas - one of the best you’ll ever taste!
