The village of Pedralva, a rural village of Vila do Bispo, which was once inhabited by over 100 people, entered a painful process of desertification in the last 25 years. In 2006, when Aldeia da Pedralva discovered this village, it had only nine of its original inhabitants left and a set of about 50 houses in an advanced state of disrepair. Only nine of these homes met the minimum conditions of habitability.

Because of this and the decision to give new life and dignity to this village, they initiated the first phase of this complex process of urban recovery. For a year and a half, they searched Portugal and Europe for over 200 owners or heirs in order to negotiate and buy a group of 31 houses. Having overcome this, Aldeia da Pedralva started the process of urban rehabilitation, trying to reproduce faithfully the rural environment through the use of restored furniture in all the houses, as well as the use of building materials faithful to the traditional old buildings.

In 2010, the village of Pedralva is ready for a new challenge: live again. For this purpose and to support the touristic village of Pedralva and its 24 houses already in operation, Aldeia da Pedralva opened the Gourmet Grocery which operated in the area of the former village store, the reception area of the touristic village which also runs the snack-bar, a summer store called Pedralva Outlet, and two restaurants already famous on the Costa Vicentina, Pizza Pazza Pizzeria and Sitio da Pedralva.

The village of Pedralva aims to become an active touristic village and has promoted various sporting events of which they can highlight, the sponsorship of the WQS (World Surf Algarve) for the last four years and the MTB National Marathon Cup. Because the village of Pedralva should have its own life and given the enormous human wealth of artisans existing in this region, they intend to activate a cultural life in this village related to the arts and artisans. Here, they will emphasize the four crafts fairs in the streets of the village.

"We stayed in a large house with the two of us, so had a lovely outside terrace with magnificent view and lots of space inside, but its especially the extremely friendly staff and delicious food (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) that we remember the most and that really charmed us."

"To get a flavor of life in a small old Portuguese village, stay in Pedralva, a very relaxing place. Basic houses, but they have everything you need and they have a small kitchen should you wish to cook. There is also a restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, and there is a pizzeria, which is open a couple of days a week. The village is pretty remote so you do need a car (free parking) but this area is a lot more quiet than Algarve and more beautiful! I really should not write this review as Pedralva is supposed not to lose it's rural and relaxing character."

"If you are looking for a place to stay in this coast, you should consider this hotel or village. Very traditional, close to the coast yet very calm and relaxing place. Here, you should disconnect. This is the place for that!"

"We stayed here for a week in August 2015 with our two children aged 19 and 22. It was perfect. The village has a nice bar area for a late evening drink and a great restaurant for lunch and evening. It also has a busy and good pizza restaurant. I would thoroughly recommend renting their mountain bikes for the day and taking the path they suggested through the national park area to the coast and back. We're not mountain bike experts but we really enjoyed the scenery and the day. We also took surf lessons one day at Praia do Amado which was great and a number of the other local beaches also rent surf boards and give lessons. We also went sea kayaking through the caves at Lagos which was beautiful but a little too busy with tourist boats getting in the way. But the best thing about Aldeia da Pedralva was the friendliness of the staff. They really did make the holiday special. Their recommendations to restaurants out of the way meant we had some of the best, freshest (and cheapest) fish meals I've ever tasted and recommendations to some superb beaches meant we had miles of beautiful beaches to ourselves. A huge thank you to Sonia and all the staff. In summary, if you want to taste the real Portugal with stunning quiet beaches, great food. and lovely countryside come here. If you want nightclubs, shopping, and busy cocktail bars - go the parts of the Algarve the other tourist brochures will recommend."
