This retreat will take place at Blue Spirit Costa Rica, which provides an extraordinary setting to all who are dedicated to spiritual transformation, personal development, and environmental sustainability. Blue Spirit offers an extraordinarily beautiful and natural setting on one of Costa Ricas renowned beaches.

Blue zones

Blue Spirit is located in one of the worlds blue zones, which inspired the name Blue Spirit. According to author Dan Buettner, the Nicoya Peninsula is one of five blue zones in the world. A blue zone is an area where people live the longest and report the highest levels of well-being. While visiting Blue Spirit, you will feel the resonance of a vibrant, inspiring, and healing energy, because of the rich subtropical environment, and the cultural lifestyle.

Costa Rica

Recently named the happiest country in the world, this is a land of pura vida where ecological integrity really matters. The easy vibe and friendly locals welcome you like you were family. In the last 10 years Nosara has grown quietly into one of the hip holistic hot-spots on the planet. This peaceful and vibrant international community of nature lovers, surfers, yogis, and families truly embraces the Costa Rican lifestyle. The community resides along the coast with three unspoiled stunning beaches, Playa Guiones, Playa Pelada, and Playa Nosara with private houses, little hotels, and excellent restaurants hidden into lush tropical greenery. Blue Spirit has become a vital part of this community.

The residents of Nosara are committed to preserve their natural environment. The three beaches are protected as a turtle refuge, and almost half of the land in the entire area is protected forest, and a moratorium on hunting animals stretches back for over 20 years. The actual village and original settlement of Nosara is four miles inland, alongside the Rio Nosara. Its a a small traditional Costa Rican town with grocery stores, typical restaurants, churches, a disco, a soccer field, and the landing strip for daily flights to and from San Jose.

The daily lunch and dinner buffet includes a pure food option, which offers greens, grains, and legumes without oils or seasonings. We purchase the food from local farmers and organic produce when available.

Horseback riding

Get close to nature and enjoy a morning or romantic sunset ride along Guiones and Garza beach. All horses of Mis Amores stable are well trained, healthy, young, and great for riders of any experience level.

Guiones beach

Blue Spirit sits atop of a hillside overlooking a three-mile-long white sand beach along the Pacific Ocean. Guiones beach is home to a turtle refuge, which preserves the flora and fauna along the entire length and no building is permitted.

The north and mid sections of Guiones beach offer great surfing to beginners and advanced alike. Blue Spirit is located at the quiet end of the beach, where swimming is easy, thanks to the gentle current. The 700 foot walk (220 meters) from Blue Spirit to the beach transverses lush grounds full of mango trees and coconut palms.

River kayak expeditions

A naturalists dream, this adventure is flanked with lush green foliage, loaded with birds (up to 30 different species), and an occasional crocodile, all along the rivers with tropical scenery. The jungle rivers of the Nosara area and nature photo opportunities will boggle your mind.

Saltwater infinity pool

The environmentally friendly saltwater pool located near the main building has views of the mountains and the jungle surrounding Blue Spirit. It has one-tenth the salinity of ocean water or one-third the salinity of human tears. You will enjoy the soft feel of the water, which is soothing to skin and hair and easier on eyes and noses than the water found in traditional chlorine pools.

Stand up paddle

This emerging global sport is like walking on water. Unlike surfing, Stand up paddle boarding is very easy to learn, but provides a good core workout. Within one hour the instructor will make you feel comfortable on your board and youll enjoy being out on the ocean.

Surfing and surf lessons

Guiones beach is famous for its safe and exceptional surfing conditions. The super friendly native instructors are experts in helping beginners and advanced alike to experience the utmost joy of riding the waves. Board rental is also available.

Turtle nesting grounds at Ostional Wildlife Preservation

The beach of Ostional is the scenery for a rarely-seen biological wonder. In rainy season, the week before new moon, hundreds, and sometimes hundreds of thousand sea turtles come to one specific mile of beach at Ostional to dig their eggs into the black, volcanic sand. The Ostional Wildlife Refuge in Costa Rica was created in 1984 to protect one of the worlds most important nesting sites of the olive ridley sea turtle. Only olive-ridleys and their close relatives, Kemps Sea Turtles, the latter an Atlantic species synchronize their nesting in mass emergences or arrivadas, the Spanish word for arrivals.

Waterfall jungle hiking

This tour begins with a 45-minute hike that involves crossing a creek a half dozen times, traversing a cattle farm and weaving through a primary canopy of tropical dry forest. Stop along the way to discover the sights, sound, and smell of everything around you before discovering a series of brilliant swimming holes and small waterfalls, each cascading from one to another.

Zip lining

Experience the most exhilarating and longest canopy tour in the world in the unequaled beauty of a Costa Rica forest wilderness. Traversing majestic mountain ridges and valleys, soaring high above multiple ravines, with breathtaking vistas of rivers, waterfalls and the Pacific Ocean. Suitable for nature lovers, adventurers, families, and all who wish to experience the ultimate canopy tour adventure.

Driving directions from Daniel Oduber Quirs International Airport (LIR)

Exiting from Liberia International Airport, turn right in direction to Santa Cruz and Nicoya. Following the paved highway, you will pass through different villages (i.e. Filadelfia, Belen, Rio Canas, Santa Cruz) until you reach after approximately 65 kilometers or an hour the outskirts of the town of Nicoya.

You will come to an intersection with a four-way red flashing light and there will be signs there indicating a right turn into the town of Nicoya. Make that right turn and drive straight through the town of Nicoya, staying always on the main road, no turns. Drive slowly, as there are a lot of pedestrians in this bustling town.

As you leave Nicoya on the other side, continue south on the paved road in the direction of Samara. There will be some twists and turns as you pass through different villages, but you stay always on the paved main road.

After approximately 30 kilometers, you will see a large gas station on your left. There is also a hardware store and a little Soda Cafe for snacks and drinks. Stop here and get gas if needed since this is the last chance on the way to Nosara.

Shortly after the gas station, the paved road makes a sharp curve to the left. At the apex of that curve, you will notice a small dirt road turning off to the right, downhill. Take this dirt road. It is the road to Garza, Guiones Beach, and Nosara. It is marked with several signs.

Stay on this dirt road for about 20 kilometers. There are, once again, some turns and twists, but stay on the main road. There are also occasional signs that tell you how many kilometers you still have to go to reach Playa Garza, Guiones, and Nosara.

You will pass through different villages until you come to a T-intersection, turn right here in the direction to Playa Garza, where you will soon meet the ocean on your left. Continue straight through the village and leave Garza behind in the direction of Playa Guiones and Nosara.

After approximately 300 meters, you will see on your left a gate and the Blue Spirit Costa Rica sign in blue and orange letters - make a turn to the left, and follow the little winding road all the way to the parking lot and main building.

Driving directions from Juan Santamaria International Airport (SJO)

Leave the airport and follow the signs towards San Jose Escazu, stay on this road for about 10-15 minutes depending on the traffic. Turn right at the intersection, you will see a McDonalds on the far left-hand corner. This is Autopista del Sol or Highway 27.

Follow the signs to Caldera and Puntarenas (63.3 kilometers). You will pass the Port of Caldera, and once you get to Puntarenas, Route 27 turns into Highway 1.

Leave Puerto Caldera and travel northeast toward Liberia and Limonal (84 kilometers). After 28 kilometers, you will pass the little town of Esparza. Keep on going straight for 6 kilometers, passing the first turn off to Puntarenas, the turn off to Puerto Caldera, and later the second turn off to Puntarenas. Keep going straight for approximately 50 kilometers until you reach the center of Limonal.

Leave Limonal to the west, and travel toward the Puente de La Amistad (29 kilometers) and Nicoya (63.5 kilometers). Pass over the Puente de la Amistad (it is a bridge), and continue for another 21 kilometers until you come to a T-junction. Turn right at the T onto the road 21. Follow this road for 13 kilometers, and turn left toward the town of Nicoya. Enter Nicoya and drive straight through the town, always staying on the main road, no turns.

Arrival by plane

Please book your flight to arrive at either Daniel Oduber Quirs International Airport (LIR) and Juan Santamaria International Airport (SJO).

"I am impressed on how hard Silvia try to meet everyones schedule, it cant be easy. Thanks to Silvia's dedication and assurance I can flow through yoga poses, I am now actually playing with yoga more and listening to what my body inspires me to do instead of trying to do yoga like everyone else. Yoga has become so much more an enriching experience for me rather than a physical struggle. I am very grateful for all the help she has given me."

"They really planned an incredible trip. I really lucked out as they not only supplied me with a wonderful yoga group and practice for the week but each day was chock full of things to participate in if I so wished. They gave us access to the real deal Bali by incorporating biking, tours, decadent meals, transport, so many activities, beach time, talks, etc. They have great taste and are very down to earth. They think of everything and are really there to answer questions and provide great resource to things you want to explore. Silvia is such a loving and inspiring yoga instructor. These guys are definitely doing what they were meant to do in life. Great people, great trip. I look forward to doing another trip with them soon!"

"I attended Alchemy Tours’ yoga retreat in Bali, and I can honestly say it was the most fulfilling travel experience I’ve ever had. It was hard to come back to reality, and not just in the typical “I’ve taken much needed time off to relax and it’s hard to get back in my routine” sort of way… But more, going on this trip made me understand that there was a much greater disparity between the potential for happiness in my life and what I considered to be my “normal” state than I had realized – and that they were further apart than they ever should be. To me, the experience with Alchemy Tours can be divided into two categories: vacation and personal reflection. As a vacation, it was amazing. White water rafting through a jungle ravine, a relaxing bike tour through Balinese rice patties, beaches, exposure to local culture, great restaurants and a gorgeous place to stay that our group had all to ourselves. It was just organized enough to feel active without feeling too busy. Previously, I wouldn’t have asked for more than that in a trip, and it was awesome in that way. But the part that really surprised me was the way Silvia’s constant positivity, enthusiasm and no-pressure encouragement would really make me reflect on the person I am, and I began to conceptualize the things I could change to improve my life as a whole."

  • Review by Elisabeth G.

"I had the best vacation ever with Alchemy Tours this Spring. I wanted to do a yoga retreat with equal parts relaxing, yoga and exploring and it was just that. The resort was gorgeous, not your typical overrun Mexico tourist spot but a beautiful, simple, chic bungalow style resort in the jungle and with its own beach. I was skeptical going on vacation with a bunch of strangers but everyone was lovely and I came back refreshed and happy, as evidenced by my yelp profile pic nuzzling a Mexican beach puppy. "

"Silvia is an inspiring teacher and really helped me to look at what I wanted out of the trip and myself when it ended. Normally my yoga classes are short and intense but this was a wonderful change of pace. I approach most things cynically including yoga talks and journaling but they yoga’d the cynic out of me and I couldn’t have been happier with the experience. Oh and it was an amazing price. And I’m going again next year, the ultimate vote of confidence."

"My husband and I went on a yoga retreat to Xinalani with Alchemy Tours. This was our first yoga retreat so we weren’t sure what to expect. Vacation for us means getting outside, being active, eating delicious food and perhaps a few cocktails. This trip provided all of the above and more. Alchemy Tours provided us with a ton of information and helped us set up a scuba diving and surfing excursion. They also arranged for the group to give back to the community we were staying in, which was very inspiring. There was a planned group activity every day which was included and optional. Everything was optional without judgement, even the yoga classes. Classes were taught every morning and evening, with a few workshop options throughout the week. Yoga classes were some of the best we have ever taken. There was a great variety that incorporated fun, music and mindfulness in a way that is rare to find. Every meal was fantastic, fresh and delicious! Every morning I woke up looking forward to that days fresh squeezed juice (and of course coffee). We do not have any dietary restrictions, but many on the trip did, the chef was masterful in handling all of the gluten free, dairy free, vegetarian, pescetarian, and vegan request. We will absolutely travel with Alchemy tours again and recommend them to everyone we know."

  • Review by Maddie L. Haramara

"Every activity during the week was carefully planned and extremely purposeful, however, there was no feeling of pressure to do things that were not of interest to you. The yoga was great. As beginner yogi I felt welcomed and confident even though advanced yogis seemed to be enjoying the classes and flows as much as I did. The yoga also varied daily. It was always interesting and I was consistently benefiting in various ways from the classes. Best of all, Silvia and Malia assisted in so much besides just yoga. There were chakra talks, happiness coachings, astrology readings, dancing, meditating, photo shoots, game playing and scavenger hunts. The days I spent in Mexico flew by faster and more enjoyably than I could have ever anticipated. Whether you are a hard-core yogi and spiritualist, or someone just looking to get away from the stresses of life I would recommend you to Alchemy Tours. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. I will definitely be booking with them again!"

"I’ve been on two retreats with Alchemy Tours – one in Bali and one in Mexico, and botanical holding hands loved them both (in fact, we are currently planning to rope our friends into joining us for another!). The two experiences were entirely different to one another, but both contained a wonderful balance of excellent yoga, guided introspection and great fun. Silvia’s the most talented yoga instructor I know, with the added depth of having a background in professional training and development and a natural affinity for study. These talents enable her to deliver elegantly constructed retreats where her yoga classes, self study exercises and fun activities are all weaved together over the week to complement the retreat theme. You will be amazingly nourished by a week which will no doubt include incredible food, exploration of the place you’re in, development of your yoga practice, new activities, personal insights and lots and lots of laughter. I can’t recommend joining them highly enough."

"I took a trip with Silvia and Alchemy tours in 2012, it was absolutely life changing, botanical jumping beautiful, easy and fun. They are friendly, fun positive energy, and have thought of all the details to create a trip that is both easy, enjoyable and potent. Each person on the trip was amazing, and the activities and nurturing environment of the resort they chose worked beautifully to create new friendships and a great group dynamic. Expect a great time, great insights and to return home refreshed and with a happier outlook on life with wider possibilities! I really can see the whole course of my life shifted with this trip, and it is completely wonderful. I would not hesitate to recommend a trip with Alchemy Tours!"
