The hostel offers dorm style rooms with bunk beds that sleep five to six people, personal lockers (bring your own lock or but one from the staff), and a private bathroom with shower. Linens are provided while towels are available for purchase. There are also two bathrooms for all to use. They also offer two private rooms. The hostel staff is on duty 24 hours.

Aguatiibia Surf School's instructors will guide you step by step, starting by teaching you how to seek out the right surfing conditions for your skill level. You will be taught about safety, wave conditions, and equipment, followed by some warm-up exercises and pop-up practice on the beach. Then, while constantly getting feedback, you will be taught to paddle correctly, pop-up, and balance on your board.

First, they will help you learn what type and size board is right for you and teach you how to carry and handle your board in and out of the water. You will learn how to seek out the right surf conditions including tides, wind, dangers in the water, and the surf venue. Not only will you learn how to pop up properly with a good stance, but also how to catch and time your own waves to surf.

As the instructors help build your confidence so you can catch your own waves, their goal is to make the learning process fun. Just like any new sport, surfing has it’s own level of difficulty, but with good practice and concentration, everyone can learn and improve. Some people will get it in their first lesson, though for others it may take a little more practice.

  • Adrian

As a surf instructor, Adrian is very patient, funny, supportive, and positive. He believes he has a very nice way of approaching people and understanding their needs. What he loves most about his job is when people smile and fall in love with surfing. Adrian also loves that he's always in contact with nature and get to meet so many cool people.

  • Andrew

Andrew is patient, but more than being patient, he has learned that everyone learns in different ways, so when he teaches, he tries to adapt his own way of teaching to that individual even when he teaches in groups. In doing that, Andrew has seen amazing results in people’s surfing.

  • Danny

Danny is very patient with the students and he helps them with everything he is able to, in the sand and the water, and tries to make them have a good time. He also loves to help all of the students and show them the beauty of surfing.

  • Alfredo

Alfredo started surfing 13 years ago when had nothing else to do because he broke his bike and also stopped playing football. As a surf instructor, Alfredo is a perfectionist and knowledgable. What he loves most about his job is when clients say "It's so fun!".

"Good guys. Good surf experience. Had a small issue when I turned in my board. Later that day they texted me to say there was damage to the board and I needed to come back and pay for some damage. The board was already rented out again and I was leaving to go home so it was never resolved. I would definitely recommend agua tibia and I feel this was probably a legit mistake. Just make sure to check out the board good on both ends of the rental to avoid any strangeness."

"My husband and his friend had an excellent experience at the Agua Tibia Surf School. After their hour and a half lesson, they both felt more confident about surfing. Their instructor was advanced and showed them a lot in a short amount of time. They couldn't say enough good things about their experience with the surf lesson. The reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because of a pattern "board damage" charges we saw arise with a group we were traveling with. My husband turned his board in and all was good. He was contacted via email the next day saying there was damage to his board at a charge of $60. Our friends saw the same thing happen after turning in their board. Its worth a discussion beforehand...and a walk around the board to look for damages before renting. It seemed a bit shady the way it was handled and should have been something that was discussed when turning in the board."

"My 9 year old son has had the best experience with Agua Tibia. Adrian was his instructor and simply rocks. He is really good with kids and is flexible enough total them wherever its the best condition. My son advanced so fast within 4 days, that he ended up all the way out with the big guys. He is still beaming. It built his confidence and now he really wants to be a surfer. He won't take off his cool Agua Tibia T-shirt. I can only recommend them."

"The experts at Agua Tibia see a variety of individuals every single day and are able to thoroughly assess clients of different ages, levels of physical ability, sizes, and expectations...and still they extract the surfer in everyone, all the while exuding an excitement as if this is the first time they have surfed or the only person they have ever taught. "

"My daughters took a few days of lessons from Adrain and JP, and I found both instructors to be flawless. They reviewed the basic physics of waves and tides, emphasized safety, practiced techniques on land, and then hit the ocean where a short time later both girls were surfing. Progress was rewarded with progressively advanced teaching and bigger waves."

"Overall, I found Agua Tibia to be far more than anticipated. In a small beachside community with tourists making up a large percentage of the population, I was not expecting such personalized service. My only complaint was that the trip was not long enough...we would have liked one more day with Adrain and JP."

"Show up a day or two before you want to surf to schedule lessons OR email them before your trip to discuss timing and scheduling of lessons. Do not worry if your Spanish is rusty...they probably speak English better than you!"

"My husband and I recently traveled to Nosara to try out surfing and our host told us that the instructors at Aguatibia are the best in the world. We don't doubt it! We were worried that we would need advance reservations to make sure that we got lessons, given all the fantastic reviews and increasing popularity of Nosara, but we forget that life outside the East Coast is less rigid and uptight; everything is more relaxed. When we walked up, Danny greeted us and said we could have a lesson that day if we wanted (we did). He was everything you could want in an instructor - clear, patient, and encouraging. While there was quite a bit of falling at first, we were able to stand on the board and ride the white water all the way to the beach in one lesson! It was tons of fun, and if we had more time, we definitely would have taken more lessons! Danny was great. Pura vida!"

"I have just got back from an amazing few weeks in Nosara where I rented my board from Aguatibia and took a few lessons with Adrian. I have only good things to say about my experience. All the guys are great and Adrian is an amazing instructor who helped me get to the next level in my surfing. He is really calming and you feel completely safe when out on the water. I had the best time and highly recommend Aguatibia to anyone looking to learn to surf or improve on your skills. Pura vida. I'll definitely be back."
